the issue over stiffness is a bit of a misnomer. What is left out is torsional stiffness, flex pattern and materials used in the ski vs. just "flex" or stiffness vs. softness. Torsional stiffness makes all the difference and what materials go into the construction. Alo, look at flex pattern and the points of where the flex ends/begins on skis. If you aren't aware of this, go flex a few and you will see, these all have huge affects ont he skis' performance.  As said before, if you want a ski to rail on hardpack and groomed, go with the 78, if you want versitility, handles crud, broken, pow and still have great carving ability/short turns, quickness, go with something about that 18-20 mt tr and a nice mellow flex at the tip (blending with firm underfoot) with a medium flex tail and solid torsional stiffness. There is way too much attention paid to the width of the ski and not on the performance of the ski.? ?Ask gary what his favorite all mountain ski is.....

Does it matter what's underfoot here?? Any guess's?? ( I know the form isn't perfect :) )
