Re: Design RS Perfect Ski

I have on strict rule about the skis that I buy. The first, which I have not broken since I first instituted this rule 3-4 years ago is that I will only buy skis that are race laminate/sandwhich construction. IMO, the feel of sandwich ski cannot be duplicated with cap or beta cap (for any Atomic fans) construction or even the cap/sandwhich that Fischer has done in the past. Luckily, most of the uperer end skis coming out of most of the ski companies do feature sandwich construction.

Beyond that. I am hoping that Phil sold me the perfect ski. For someone that hated midfats, I can say that a good midfat somewhere between 78and 88 underfoot may just about be that perfect do everything ski (and this is from someone that has well over 10 pairs of skis and has been looking ofr a full time ski caddy :D). As my skiing has improved, I havw really enjoyed midfats more and more. Better technique allows me to be able to really carve and bedb these skis and also ski them off piste and even in deep untracked. I actually like the fact that skiing bot those very different conditions are a little harder than on a ski made for the conditions, and skiing them in these conditions makes one a better skier. The IM 78 comes pretty close but is just a little too thin underfoot for a pure big dump day. The Watea 84 for me skied great in fresh snow but really lacked on harder snow. It may be that the Sultan 85 and the FX 84 may be those perfect do everything skis, that youy can really enjoy whatever the mountain throws at you on any given day.

Not that I would every want to give up my quiver!!
