Jim, you are not a "crappy skier". Are you good enough to ski anywhere you so choose? Yes. Are you experienced enough to know when you are on terrain and/or conditions, that you feel over your head and not safe? Yes. Are you experienced enough to know what terrain you are confident on, feel safe, and therefore, having fun. Absolutely yes. I have skied with you and watched you have a great time on terrain and in conditions that you feel confident. That makes you a successful and responsible skier - not a "crappy skier".

If you insist on being "a less particular practitioner", I hope all the other skiers I encounter are "less particular practitioners" as good as you are.
