Some great bump skiing going on here. Someone needs to tell PSIA that keeping your feet together is a good thing.

My thoughts are his technique centers about very athletic deep flexing movement to absorb the moguls which sets him up to make the very quick displacement of the ski tail, somewhat similar to the PMTS brushed turn. It's pretty clear that there is an active retraction movement as he pulls the skis up and his knees almost touch his chest. Many in the PMTS community, including Max, have advocated this active flexion using the ab muscles in place of the basic "relax the stance leg". In Harald's last video, he has a section where he describes the active feet pull up, but, he does not demonstrate an equal amount of flexing.

Looking at the short turn video and applying the concept of "Form follows Function", he's a bump skier not a racer. Same very deep flexing, almost too deep and too extended a period of time, for non-bump skiing. Again, he moves the tails across the fall line so quick, it must be a brushing movement. In Harald's blog, there is a recent video where he contrasts brushing vs carving, and, in the first part, HH skis in a style similar to the short turn video. Check it out below.

Not impressed with the long turn video, skiing is sloppy compared to the other two.

From the standpoint of a recreational skier, 99.9% of us can benefit by working of leg flexing and extending, both in and out of bumps. I only dream about being strong and skilled enough to get 50% as flexed as these videos.

Max, any recent short term video of you in that great late season snow you are enjoying? We've not seen you on skis in a while.
