As a New Yorker for 26 year now, I've been in that situation for a while.  It's not too bad because dear Uncle Sam asks us to send him quarterly love letters and a big one on April 15 to make sure we know he still cares about us even if not about our vote.  He's a very caring and attentive uncle.  If we forget to send a letter, he sends people to "check up" on us.
