Hmm, Harald is always stating that he speaks German, so, I just have to guess that he can supply a better translation. 

Mike, I speak ze German.  You are quite correct on both words.  But just to clarify, Hinter is used as a preposition, as in "He is behind me" = "Er ist hinter mir", which is what my wife says every time we ski together. 

It is not used as a noun.  That would be Hintern, which means butt in German.

So now you know....just don't mix them up if you ever travel to Germany.
