Well then, old timer, you absolutely need to get a pair of modern, well fitted boots before you even consider replacing those 1980 skis.  Those rear entry things you are probably skiing now just don't give you the support you need to edge parabolic (now called shaped) skis.   :D  :D  ;D

BTW, I'm 59, but I didn't learn to ski until MUCH later than you.
