A lot of my running buddies are buying property in the mountains of North Carolina for vacation and eventual retirement.? Nice to have the mountains and beach nearby.? Wife won't do it (move to N.C. you gutter heads) because of....whatever.

The Blowing Rock and Boone area of North Carolina is very pretty, cool in summer, cold in winter.? Tremendous overlooks from the mountains down into the North Carolina flatlands.? There are even a couple of small ski "resorts" in the area that have been struggling recently.?

However, you can drive all the way across Florida faster than you can get from the North Carolina mountains to the North Carolina beaches.? It is at least a 4 hour drive, and if you are going to Hatteras/Outer Banks make that at least 5.
