Since I'm somewhat of an old school skier...178's still seem "short" for me. I haven't skied on that length since I was in Junior high. 

But, I'd certainly be willing to test out some shorter skis for ha-ha's. That's really intersting that you were able to ski just fine on 165's. Again, being the type of skier that I am, I'd be worried about stability on a ski that short.
