OK, not to **** on anyones preferences (no pun inteneded) but I do have to say the 78 wasn't my favorite head by far but it was a very good ski; I did think it was a lot of ski however and the 171 was plenty of board for me. Skis like that the 78, the Elan 888, Dynastar MR, Legend pro are some boards where I think going down one size (to groomer size) is advised. If you are planning on carving and actively skiing stiffer more demanding boards, I think they are just a little more user friendly. I didn't ski the 78 in a 177, so I can't say for sure, just my .02.
