Speaking as one who was/is on the edge of Type II diabetes.

I few carbs in the morning followed by exercise ain't such a bad thing.

I found that there was a tremendous difference in how my body reacted to things that increase blood sugar when it was followed by exercise (even limited exercise).  Just the hint of exercise seems to energize the body to burn it.  Gorwing up (and especially high school basketball) they always encouraged us to separate eating and exercise (limits the non-snow type of puking), but that was long ago.

I remember one morning that I ate something (don't really remember what), waited 30 minutes and tested.  My blood sugar was in the high 100's. Went out and mowed grass (self propelled mower, so not rigorous exercise), came in and tested to find that my blood sugar was down at 85.  Target fasting blood sugar is 70-100 (first thing in the morning) but it roams all over the place during the day. I verified this on other occasions as well.  Even a brief brisk walk after dinner would drop blood sugar by large amounts.
