Glen the mounting point is more driven by skiing style. If you are an old school rotational skier who muscles the ski around and doesn't depend on making a lot of angles, then mounting the bindings to the rear makes sense for you. I take the actual running length, go to mid-point and come forward 1 cm. (that's 10mm to Gary). This is a slightly forward mounting point that allows good control of the front portion of the ski; from under foot up to the tips. I am not a park rat but I think most park/pipe skis are mounted sllightly back from BC.
