In past trips to the PC area, I usually chose to stay near the outlet area (aka Snyderville basin). Powderwood is one condo area that was reasonable, though the last time (about 4 years ago) the condos were looking a bit tired. Though close to the outlets, we had no feeling of  being in that area.

Once we rented a condo at the base area of the Canyons, though did not ski there much. That is quite close to the I-80 road. From that neck of the woods, the ride to the Cottonwood Canyons was about 45 minutes. No more. The slowest part of the trip is the ride up the canyons themselves, which is winding, but quite pretty.

Being down near the outlet area gave easy access to the 3 resorts in Park City, an hourish ride to SnowBasin and 45 min to the Cottonwood areas. I also liked strolling the town in the evenings.
Though I will admit your accommodations in SLC sound pretty nice too. Hmm.
