John P. Barley! Love it! Good one, Gary.? You forgot to mention that he put road kill in the grinder too...raccoons, squirrels, ski lodge mice.... :P?

Actually, the term Barley Sandwich comes from the prairies (which is why I thought Jim might know it).? It's a fermented beverage consisting of malted barley, hops, water and yeast....in a word:? BEER.? The phrase "Going for a barley sandwich" was used as a round-about way of saying "I'm off to the pub for a pint", ......or just sitting at home on the porch having a beer, taking a break from chores.? Lot's of workmen's lunches included a greasy slider (burger) and a barley sandwich in the local watering hole, and it became a code for "Meet you at the pub, Joe!"
