Need advise on skis
« on: September 15, 2007, 08:32:41 am »
Hello,

To all you expert skiers out there, I need some advise. I want to buy a new pair of skis this year to complement my Volk allstars (175). I a 225 lbs, 6.1 and 37 years old.

I ski the whole mount and I will call myself and aboe average skiier. I struggle on moguls with the all starts and ideally i will like something that performs well on moguls and deeper snow

Please help!

I'm sorry to do this, but I am a new user and I would like to ask a question.  Before I do, I need to write 4 posts, so I decided to bump this post 3 times.  Thanks,

Hello n....

Great ski for you that Allstar....

I've recently become introduced to the Fischer Watea 84 and Ron who I'm sure will post here, got the Watea 94.

Also, Michael Barrett posted his reviews of some great all mountain choices.

I do think if you ski the east coast the Watea 84 could be a good choice for bumps and east coast powder.

If you head out west....the 94 would be better.

I like these skis because of all the outstanding reviews. They are workable in the pow....soft snow.... bumps and trees and can hang out some pretty solid carved turns as well. I've been am experienced fan of Head and Fischer skis and like their on snow performance.
Another interesting choice to look at might be the Salomon X-WIng Fury.

If you have good technique, the 84-94 waist skis can handle without difficulty snow knee high.

If you get blessed with deeper snow than that, rent fat...and call us!

Best,
Gary

Ok where are you skiing? what kind of runs? How often, how fast? Any trees, open bowls, just groomers?  Also, fess up and be honest, 6'1 and 225, are you a fit 225 or a few extra cheese burgers 225. This makes a difference.

On the general side:  Watea 84/ 94, head Mojo90, Possibly a mantra, They are a litle stiff though for Moguls, also look at Mythic riders or something in the 88mm plus area. The challenge is that all mountain skis generall suck...With your Allstars, you should be OK on the groomed stuff.  I would say Head 78 or  dynastar LTD (C-11) but not wide enough for pow at your size. The mojo90 is a great ski that I own and really like for any soft snow conditions. I thought they were fine in bumps. The new 94 is my new out west soft snow and pow ski. Softer than the 90 and of course a bit wider in the tip and waiste.

last post, sorry for any annoyance.?

LSU skier, what you posted wasn't an annoyance, especially when compared with the crap that gets posted by web-bots if we don't do something to make sure that there is a real person at the other end of the network.  We've eliminated hundreds of truly disgusting posts, the price of 4 little posts here and there is nothing.
Glad it worked exactly as intended, sorry for the minor inconvenience to you.

I agree with other answers and would also suggest you consider the Dynastar Mythic Rider.
