Got to meet Phil!!
« on: October 13, 2010, 07:57:49 am »
I was up at Starthaus yesterday getting new boots for my wife. When I walked in the door someone I hadn't seen there before asked me if he could help me. I told him I was there to see Jim Schaffner and I told him my name and Phil said "It's me Phil!!" I also got to meet Snowhot. It was a pleasure meeting them both and amazingly I did not come home with 2 new pairs of skis!!

I will say that I have been getting most of my boot work done by Jim Schaffner for years and each time I am there I am reminded why. He is great!! He is the consumate professional always doing excellent/superior work with no shortcuts. My wife boughtt some Hottronic boot heaters. You should have seen how they mounted the wires and the pads so that it would be impossible to detect by the foot. I had one remaining hot spot on my Raptor 150 boots and Jim nailed it the first time. No guess work, I love that he uses lipstick to find exactly where the boot is making contact with the foot. For me it is only a 3 hour drive and I am up several times during the year to ski (so yes for me it's easy) but I can't recommend Jim and his team enough. Great shop and the best boot work anywhere.

I did have a long converstaion with him about the Dodge Boot but I will post that in the Dodge Boot thread.

Not for the lack of trying.
Next time I'll bring my A game and help you walk away with a little more quiver to your quiver. :)
Sometimes you just need to let your Bad Self ski!!

the hot tronics are awesome, I know we have disussed this but they are really great. Keep in mind that once you put the heating elements in the beds, dont try to remove and reglue if you have work done on the beds, its better to just replace the elelments as the wires are very thin and fragile and in all likleyhood the elements will be damaged to some degree. They aren't expensive.

John,

Be forewarned! Many Philly locals left Phil's shop carrying more than one pair of skis. But they all had smiles on their faces! I can testify!

Snow Hot and Philpug ganging up on an unsuspecting buyer is not a level playing field. Your wife can get new ski wear, you get skis - BRING CREDIT CARD!
