New skis for Lynn
« on: June 07, 2011, 12:43:08 pm »

TADA TADA

Don't know if MIDWIF has claimed the crown of first delivery of the year or the crown of  first to buy new skis in the calendar year 2011 or not but I am privy to the information that she went to the FedEx store and birthed a new arrival, a pair of Fischer Progressor 8's.

The new arrival "measured" in at 155cm long, with dimensions of 120-72-103, turn radius of 12/15.
Mother and progeny are both reportedly doing well, anxious for the opportunity to begin that maternal bonding that only happens in the presence of snow.
The delivery came with color coordinated accessories (aka bindings); we would expect no less of Lynn-Z-Bell, aka the Bronx Belle.   :)

I think these will be a great addition for those deep powder and tree days when lightweights like her don't really need wide skis.
Actually, they are last years model because she was wanting the narrower waist and the 2012 model goes up to 74 mm waist.

Fortunately, this child will never require college tuition.  ::)

But perhaps a new matching ski outfit for the proud mother?  Airfare to exotic slopes to "educate" her new children properly?  Being a proper parent to new skis ain't cheap!

Congrats, Lynn!  I look forward to meeting your new kids this winter.

Brilliant! Great choice Lynn.  You will have a total blast on those.  They are just going to be a ton of fun.  Can't wait to hear your comments after the first few days out on those babies.  Got your first trip planned?  Chile? ....next week? (just a suggestion..... ;D )

I did not know that FedEX sells skis! ;D

Lynn,

Congrats! Perhaps in your own time and words, you will share how the Progressor 8's became the winners of the "my next ski" contest. I always enjoy reading how others come to final decisions as it's often a long, strange trip. I seem to remember riding chairs at Elk last January and newer skinny skis were on your mind.

Fisher owners always seem to be very loyal and enthusiastic. They just have this happy face when talking about their skis. Note to self, demo them when you have a chance.

Mike:

Hospitals don't create babies, you just go there to 'deliver' the baby. FedEx doesn't sell the ski, you just go there for the delivery.

Welllll Svend. Calling yourself brilliant might get you in trouble with the wise-a**es that hang around here. ;) ;D

Based on yours and Terryls description, I decided to jump the broom and take a chance on an undemoed ski.

And of course, with Jim's ability to sniff a deal out on the internet and dangling it in front of me like a ripe peach......
Foregone conclusion.  8)

Looking forward to skiing them and feeling something new to play with underfoot. I really had grown to actually dislike the Everythangs. Too twixt and tween. Or maybe I had just worn them out. They no longer felt good underfoot.

The Progressors have great reviews across the board. And Terryl's description of her skiing and liking of these really sealed the deal.
So Thank you and Terryl.

Hi LP,

As noted above, Terryl and Svend had a lot of influence on my decision to go with the Progressor's w/o demo'ing.

Also, reviews corroborated their general appeal across the board.

I was quite taken with two of the skis I demo'ed that day at ELk. A Dynastar and an Elan. Both were very different feeling though. I would have wanted to try them each again in different conditons.
It seems almost easier to just get a ski and try to be happy with what you've got, than actually trying to determine which is the "best" one for "me".

I know, heresy around here.

OTOH, if I really dislike them, I could probably sell them. John and Ron seem to have this down very efficiently. Well, maybe Ron does.  :D

Hey! Don't give 'em any ideas, ya troublemaker.  Besides, I was calling YOU brilliant.....and your choice of skis.  Certainly not Moi.  :-X  (nice dodge, eh?.....where's that Ducking emoticon?)

Well, have fun on the new boards!  So glad to have helped you out with your choice.  Gee, I sure hope you like them  :-*, otherwise you'll be calling me anything but brilliant.....getti ng a bit nervous here.... :o  So glad I live far from NYC  8)  The wrath of a New York woman wronged is not something I wish to be on the receiving end of (Jim, seriously....we NEED an emoticon for ducking a flying rock! Soon! ....or at least before Lynn's first ski day)

Just to set the record straight, I have sold a few pairs of skis, but clealy not as many as I should have!!

I have no issue with my decision to never sell skis that I have liked and loved (even If I rarely ski them anymore) like the original SS which allowed my skiing to soar. I have have an emotional attachment to those skis. What I do regret is not selling a good list of skis that I never loved, have no emotional attchment to and they are gathering dust. I do justify this becuase I have a great aresnal of skis that others can use and try when they visit in MT.

For sure Ron has it down and nailed!!

Yes, Ron has got it down. Few can aspire to his ability to let 'em go and ship 'em out.
I think more folks are like you John, keeping something that isn't quite right for the time when they might be!
And then, sometimes, there's inertia! ;D

Hi Lynn...so happy you decided on that ski. I too thought it a very impressive ski, very versatile and with your wee self, should be able to crush powder and crud up to boot high....sweet.

It has great edge hold, solid at speed and it turns very quickly but stable at medium and large radius turns.

Now get it into the bumps and it works great there too....yup...you gonna love it! Bet you can't wait for snow!

Best and congrats, G
