Great links Max and BW,

That cave drawing certainly looked like rocker with a full rise to.

Speaking of history, at Jeannie Thoren's shop at Vail we saw a pair of "cross-country" skis in a 235 length with 50cm of "early rise". Nothing new under the sun, indeed.

FWIW...Stein was an amazing free skier-that opening sequence still looks beautiful.

Oh, whoa, that's Dino Dudanake (pulling off the front double!)...he's a great guy and a very popular local Rossi rep in these parts...I've actually never seen any footage of his competitive skiing before (he still rips, though).

It hurts to show your age, but:
ha!
I was in Aspen the year of the first video. Notice the "state of the art" double chair that got you up the first 1000 feet. On the other side of Aspen, there was a single chair that was a twin to the original chair at Stowe. And the moguls were shaped by 205 cm skis! I noticed someone skiing with a pair of tricolor bottom skis, they were K2's and my first good ski. I need to transfer my 35mm slides of those days to digital and post a few.

And Gary, I was expecting to see Clendenin pop up someplace. And, Stein Erickson, not even Harald would knock his style ! Smooth like butter.

It' great we can see all of this footage on the net. In those days, it would be weeks before film may have made it to TV or, in most cases, Warren Miller would show it next year!
