Binding for Head SS. Tyrolia FF 11 vs. 14 or 17
« on: February 21, 2007, 11:58:16 am »
Sorry for another Head SS thread. But I'm just wondering if there is any advantage of having Tyrolia FF+ 14 or 17 bindings over FF+11 on Head SS rather than just DIN settings? I'm 5'9'' and 155 and my current type II skier DIN setting is at 6. So even with Tyrolia FF+11 it seems like I will have long way to go up. And FF+11 is ~100$ cheaper than FF+14.

What do you guys think. I really appreciate your input!

Aleksey.

I had the same choice on my Head i.SL chips and went with the LD12 on the FreeFlex.  For me, having a binding where my DIN setting is in the middle of the bindings range is more comforting that having an LD14 where my DIN might be very close to the bottom.  I believe that the 14 and 17 may have metal in some places where the 11&12 have plastic, but I don't believe that makes a discernible difference in how the bindings perform.

As usual, Well Said Jim!  Yup, the higher din models have a bit more structure to the binding. Unless you are really pushing the limits, there are no real differences. The solid binding is said to perform better under high stress- extreme high speed carving or flying through crud and bumps where the boot is twisting in the binding. It gives it more support. Save the cash!

Jim and Ron,

Thank you very much for your suggestions. It turned out that I got decent deal on SS with FF+14 binding that I can't complain about.
