STEAMBOAT update Sunday 10/21 6 am
« on: October 21, 2007, 06:25:53 am »
Mornin' gang, well it started to snow yesterday at about 5pm while eating some killer mexican food at a new place we found. It snowed unitl about 10pm, there is about 3" here at the base but there is defintiely more on the mountain. It is lightly snowing now and we are expecting a few more throughout the day. Breckenridge area, including A basin and Loveland are expecting up to 18"   ;D

I am online. I will post pics of the regrading project and the new lift.

UPDATE  went outside, there's about 6" if not more. We are expecting another 4-8 here at the base, the tops should be getting well over a foot.

Ron
If you hiked, could you ski there tomorrow?

Also, think about a place for us to eat the first night.
Since all will be jet-lagged, except for Ratliff the chauffeur (thank you Jim, for picking Ron and I up)
and the afternoon will be about doing food shopping and set up, I think an eat and greet restaurant like last year is the way to go? Any suggestions, oh master of the mountain?

An early dinner sounds like the way to go, IMHO.

We could then set up the schedule for the next 4 days.

hey lynn, I can sense you are getting psyched!  That's awesome.  Yes, if we all like Mexican, there is a great place that is very reasonable, 10-15 PP. You won't be lagged, it's just a 4 hour flight and its only 2 hours so its not bad, just go to bed about 9 and that way you will get up about 5, which is perfect in my book!  Not enough cover for skiing yet. snowed off and on all day, no added accumulation in the valley. 22 this AM!

Ron..as long as the Mexican Rest. serves other things besides Mexican food. I remember last year, my head was aching and my stomach was queezy that first night.....elevation ....but fine the rest of the trip. Who knows..maybe won't happen this year.

Just worried that 1st day at elevation...I persoanlly find I need to eat a little less and more simple.

Glad you're seeing the snow...good for the soul and GREAT for the mountain.

Ron, I must agree with Gary about a different food the first night. Love mexican, but also have acclimatization issues. Soup, salad, less spicy/oily fare the first night might be better.

So, instead of hiking up to get fresh tracks, you went fishing??  :o ;D

ok Kerry and I went to a great steakhouse where you cook your own steaks or chicken on a pool table size grill. It was great and a lot of fun. I think we should do that. folks, its only 7100' there.....

I read somewhere, that a higher protein diet helps at altitude.
I vote yes on the grill your own steak place. Moderately priced??

Lynn....I'm big into spliting meals....there's always so much food....what do you think.....
I'll split a tenderloin steak with ya if you want then we could each order a salad or soup.

No need to share Gary , you can get a womans portioned NY strip for $14.00, that's what Kerry got :) . Seriously, its about 8-9 OZ. Sounds perfect if you would rather go light. They also have chicken and shrimp too. They also have decent wine by the glass and a good assortment of drafts. Veggies and other sides like potatoes are ala carte and served family style. You can probably get dinner for around 25-30. Less if you skip the beer and wine, but that's not much fun! I got the 16oz AA prime steak, it was killer. They will have Buffalo bone-in rib eye in December, that's my favorite.

oh come on now, there's no crying in skiing!  ;D

Really, the smaller size strip is all you really need. that and some garlic mashed potatoes and a cold draft, you're good to go.
