We skied at DV two years ago, and you're right, it was not a quick trip through town to the interstate.  There are a couple of hotels right at the junction to the I-80...I'll check those out....there's a Holiday Inn, at least, though not my first choice as it's beside the factory outlet mall and the I-80.  Will do some research on that area.

As I said, we only plan to ski at DV once, and the rest of the time at Snowbasin, Powder Mtn., Solitude and perhaps Alta.  We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in SLC when we were last there, and really enjoyed it - huge room, HD-TV, 1 minute to Interstate I-15, 5 minutes to Trolley Square, walk to the brew pub...nice...

In past trips to the PC area, I usually chose to stay near the outlet area (aka Snyderville basin). Powderwood is one condo area that was reasonable, though the last time (about 4 years ago) the condos were looking a bit tired. Though close to the outlets, we had no feeling of  being in that area.

Once we rented a condo at the base area of the Canyons, though did not ski there much. That is quite close to the I-80 road. From that neck of the woods, the ride to the Cottonwood Canyons was about 45 minutes. No more. The slowest part of the trip is the ride up the canyons themselves, which is winding, but quite pretty.

Being down near the outlet area gave easy access to the 3 resorts in Park City, an hourish ride to SnowBasin and 45 min to the Cottonwood areas. I also liked strolling the town in the evenings.
Though I will admit your accommodations in SLC sound pretty nice too. Hmm.

Hey Lynn...thanks.  I didn't think that the trip from PC to the canyons was that short...45 minutes is pretty quick.  I'll confer with Mrs. V and see what she would prefer...downtown or PC.  We didn't explore Park City when we were there, but it looked like a nice town and well worth some time to wander about.

Did you ever ski at Solitude? Is that worth a day? We skied Brighton 2 years ago and liked it...nice terrain and trails on the upper half of the mountain, and unpretentious, which was a plus.

Yes, have skied at Solitude a couple of times. Lovely place and the ride up that Big Cottonwood Canyon is impressive.
On the smaller side, like brighton. Plenty of boarders, but Brighton also had their share.

It is always a pleasure to go to an area that has two mountains without boarders, Alta and DV. It's nice to not have to worry about their blind side.

Solitude sounds great -- we'll have to make a day there.  The Cottonwood Canyons certainly are scenic, even in the summertime.  Great place!

I hear you about the boarders.  More than once have our kids nearly been hospitalized by a flying boarder who couldn't see them (or couldn't be bothered to turn his head to look).  For night skiing, we've taken to attach blinking red lights (like the cyclists have) to the backs of their helmets just so the boarders can spot them.  Sounds hokey, but who cares? It works.  Anything to keep 'em safe.  And the teen boarders seem to like the lights, and always comment on how cool they are.  Our local hill, Blue Mtn., luckily, is expansive enough that there are runs which seem to attract all the boarders, and as long as we stay away from those, we're OK -- room enough for everyone....
