Thank you Ron. I have had some private pm's with Jim and Gary who have a sense of the situation. My husband is quite a guy.
HIs name is Doug Stern. Doesn't love skiing, but was willing to go along because I did and wasn't threatened when I went off to do a bit on my own.
You googled me, try googling him. It runs a few pages.

Great guy for sure. I went onto his site and took a look around. Triathelete, avid swimmer and runner!  Training vacations for 21 years!  Wow, we're starting ski trip #2 :) 15th annual triathalon! How great is it to have your own triathlon? I am glad he doesn't ski, I don't think I could begin to keep up with him.

Lynn. talk about a small world. I grew up in NY and I was living in NYC until I moved to the west coast in 1992. In 1990 when I was injured and I had cut back big time on my running (which is all I seemed to live for back then) I started swimming quite a bit and started to enter some triathlons. One day when I was swimming at the Athletic and Swim club (51st and 7th ave downstairs) a guy started screaming at me to use my legs and kick more. I swam to the the end of the pool and spoke extensively about swimming with your husband!!!

Several of my freinds have worked with him over the years.

As well, my wife is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002 at age 43. I know how trying this time can be for both you and your husband.

I will also say that cancer and facing mortality has changed my life permanently, for the better. I was caught in a cycle of acheivement which granted me litte joy or happiness. The prospect of facing raising my daughter alone without her mother impacted me in a way that little else had, and from that time forward I made significant permanentt changes in my life.

I think that times like these are sacred, which is not to say that they aren't frightening, difficult and terribly painful!!

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Doug and your whole family. Blessings to all of you. John.

Bs"D

This is the rare occasion which demands temporaily coming out of posting retirement.? For whatever its worth, I want to add my blessings to Lynn and Doug for his complete and speedy recovery.

Its also worth mentioning that [exactly as in the wise thread title] the most important thing everyone can do is to think positvely.?
About 150 years ago, a man came to the Rebbe of Lubavitch asking for his holy blessing for a miraculous recovery of his life threateningly sick relative.? The grand rabbi answered [translation from the Yiddish]: "Think good, will be good".? [ie., It is in your own hands to make a "miracle" - positive thinking has a natural chain reaction which ultimately affects the whole universe.]

Today, this "secret" is already widely known, and has been observed and documented.? Positive thinking, and prayer, have the power to actually change the reality of the physical realm.?

The following explanation is also a deeper reason of how and why it works - beyond the "nature" inherent in the creation:
Belief in G-d Almighty's ability to do as He wills, and trusting, with a certainty, that he will bestow kindness and revealed good, itself is the merit which will bring about the desired response from Above -measure for measure.

Again, with blessings for a full recovery.

ps.? JB, I grew up living in a townhouse on E. 51st in Manhattan.

John, you are right, it is a small world and that sounds exactly like Doug. You are also right about this being sacred time. We have been lucky enough in our life together to each do a profession that gives us satisifaction. We were lucky enough to realize a decade or more ago, that quality of life and especially our relationship, was what was most important. Our time left together is unknown, but I do take some comfort that we have spent many years together nurturing each other. It did not take this event for us realize how much we love each other.

RadRab, if there is a cure in positive thought, then the deed is done. My husband is busy living and  not the least bit interested in not beating this.
Thanks for your good thoughts, guys
Lynn
