Yes, I do have a connection and get a lot of my clothes very inexpensively. like 30-50% off the good stuff that usually never goes on sale. I think I buy more since I don't get to ski enough, its like I feel better or something, I would trade all of that for 60 days on the slopes. I am not sure I agree its a feminine thing though, I am just a simple gear-****. No pinks or purples, no frilly things.? Nothing wrong with buying something that makes you stand out a little, the basic uniform seems to be black pants and a blue/black or red/black TNF hard shell. Thats boring!

OK, pants, yes, go for a pair of brown pants. Slightly baggy, Brown or khaki are great colors, goes with anything.? ?You should be able to find a good pair for about $200 or so. Check out the snowboard sections, often they are cheaper than ski clothes. I have apair of Volcom pants, they are very comfortable and functionable. Look on Sierra trading post, thats a great site for good stuff.

here are two great deals (the second is better)

Midwif:? On behalf of both Ron and I, thanks, I think, for your encouragement in all of the ski dollar distribution.? I take it from your voice of approval that you believe we are getting more in touch with our "feminine side"?

Between Gary's silk undies? and Ron'swardrobe needs, I think the feminine side is well represented by you otherwise, all man, skiers. :D
Nice to know that I am not the only one who always brings two pairs of ski pants and 2 jackets on short ski trips. I mean, just think if you ripped your only pair of pants or killed your only jacket in a fall and had to buy a new one WHOLESALE at the mountain!! THE HORROR!

THe important question: who is bringing a camera to document this splendor? The snow, the skis, the OUTFITS!
Confession: I bought Bogner ski pants this summer. 60% off. Couldn't help myself. They fit so well. Will probably wear with the powder blue Spyder jacket bought the summer before.
Will you guys still ski with someone who is wearing Bogner? ;D

It's all about the shopping

The key statement is not that the brand was Bogner, but that you purchased something that fits well and you like at 60% off of retail.  Anything purchased at more than 50% off is a great deal, even if you just turn it around on eBay like Michael does.

In fact, Michael may be the 'most rewarded' shopper of all of us.  He buys and sells skis like Warren Buffett buys and sells companies.  Actually, after some consideration I think Buffett keeps his companies longer.   ;D

Bogner is for chicks ;D Yes, you will be right at home at the Beav" no worries. Have you ever been to the Beav? 60% off is too good to pass up and yes, Michael would have resold that and bought a pair of Seth Pistols..... Pictures? I am bringing a camcorder to capture the sites and sounds and so gary can conduct critiques during his mini-PMTS clinics. FWIW, I bring a cold weather outfit and a moderate one. The weather at that tme can be bitterly cold to moderate. Last season we skied in -5 weather. Typically, its 5-10 in the AM, warming up to the low 20's. I hate to sweat and get hot so I always take two jackets

Never been to the "Beav". Have been to Deer Valley where Bogner abounds, usually one piece. I actually have a Bogner jacket(mid summer sale 4 years ago) which I like because of it's simple brown and black design, but in general Bogner is too foufou for me.
I didn't realize BC was a posh place til the last few days.

While I like the thought of all the powder, this east coast bred skier sometimes finds herself on her ass, oops, can one use those words here? However, I am generally willing to throw my body down many a slope and hope for the best!

I am going to try and get to a local ski area at least twice prior to BC. I want to find my ski legs.

Ron:  That's an interesting approach.? I just have an light weight fleece (Marker, not Bogner :) ) that comes in and out of the backpack as an extra layer when necessary.? Have never needed a jacket swap.

Midwif:? I think I can identify with your modest description of your skiing!? It sounds a lot like me, but no you can't use that word here.? Shame on you.? ?;D? Remember, however, that unless you are a member of ski patrol there's no negative associated with falling; it just means that you are still willing to push it a little bit.

All:? I do like the idea of getting in early skiing before the "local" January February season begins.? I'll usually take another trip mid to late March.? IF this becomes an annual RealSkiers event, I'll come and tag along next year (but you all have to wait for me at the bottom of the slope to catch up).

Lynn, it looks like Hunter may have some terrain open next week. I can meet you there if you like. I really wanted to get a couple of hours on the new boots for last minute tweaks.  OK, you must use the terms "ass" and not "bum" while skiing and I will be falling as well. I subscribe to the same philosphy that you are not learning if you are not falling. You will enjoy the Beav' if you liked DV. THe local joke is that millionaires go to Vail, billionaires go to the Beav. I don't kow what your financial situation is but you will see spending from the real high rollers like you have never seen. Its can be humbling. My instructor is typically booked for 3 weeks in Feb/march by one family. He takes the 3 kids and skis with them- thats about $500 per day for baby sitting. These are kids and he doesn't really teach them, just skis with them. You can do the math....

Jim the two jacket thing has worked well for me. I wear only a couple of layers so if its a real cold day I would rahter wear a warmer jacket. This jacket is kind of hig-tech, it has gel packs inside the jacket that heat up with body temp and them release if you cool down. It helps with the temps swings. In warmer weather, I would rather be cold for a while and then heat up when the sun comes up on the slopes. THis way I don't have to overdress or deal with getting rid of layer later on.

To all....we have Bogner, Marmot, "2 jackets, ass", billionaires, ...so much to do about SPENDING!!!!(well except the ass part)

I think we ought to do a clothing swap for one day at BC...

Ron you wear Lynn's clothes, Lynn can wear mine and I'm wearing yours Ron.

Now there's a Kodak moment.

Hey, whatever I learned in PMTS and from the Ski Doctor is free for the taking.

Of course some BC form a appreciation is always appreciated at dinner time!

Can't wait!!! Hoping for sure to make this a Real Skiers Annual Outing!

Best to all,
Gary

I am glad to say that I don't think any of you guys would fit into any of my ski clothes. I'm 5'4 and 120lbs. :D
However, the effort to would defiinitely be a kodak moment!

We have been going to Park City for the past 7 yrs for a ski week. We generally stay in the outlet area or vrbo spot nearby and go to a different resort everyday with Alta a must for 2 of those days. Deer Valley is where we usually go the first day, since the terrain and grooming lends itself to acclimatization (skiing and altitude). NOw Snowbasin! The lodges there make DV look second rate!
My skiing skills are very modest and match my financial situation. :) I will have the oldest skis and boots there, but I am a happy camper ;D

Gary, thanks bud, I will defer Lynns clothes to Michael! There is a joke there but it would be in poor taste (at this point) I'll wait until we're on the mountain.  Lynn, fancy clothes and new skis do not make the skier. Skill does.......

Midwif:? I am convinced that it is your personality and your description of yourself that are modest and humble.? I think your skiing skills are probably just fine (and maybe better than you think).? You're going to enjoy Beaver Creek, but I think it's a better mix of terrain than Deer Valley.

By the way, I agree with your assessment of the Lodges at SnowBasin.? The first time I went there the Lodges were under construction and the restroom were in a portable trailer.? Not at all impressive The next year (2000) the lodges were built and just awesome.? I mean individual dressing rooms, solid wood dressing rooms.? Have you ever gone over to Powder Mountain.? Very much like the Alta experience, maybe even more so.

Warning, Warning, Warning.? I'll guess that she's probably sand-bagging her ski abilities a little.? Besides, she's skiing on Head iC160's (both JBotti and I still have our iC160's.? They were/are a good ski.)
