Busy Weekend
« on: November 16, 2008, 05:38:02 pm »
I undertook two of Philpug's recent recommended projects this weekend and am better prepared for the coming season because of it.  The six pair 1" PVC ski rack now hangs in my garage and last year's 30.00 tuning bench (Epic posting) was created and used to do a great deal of waxing today.  No waxing of topsheets ocurred however.  Gotta offer the project engineer a couple scotch's of his choice at the Boat for his design expertise.

Saturday morning was the highlight however.  After many years absent, the Minneapolis Ski & Snowboard Expo returned this year and I was down there to visit.  A small show it was (we are fly-over country after all).  I visited the Head booth, (the more I ski Heads the more I like the line)  the Dynastar booth (they've always got some leading edge stuff) and then I walked around into the next aisle to the Elan/Dalbello both and ran into the original madman himself.

Who's manning the Elan booth in flyover country, non other than Glen Plake himself.  Got to shake hands, shoot the breeze for a couple minutes.  What a treat, the guy is truly a skiing addict and a great "front-man" for our sport.  I wish I had my camera along.

Even with 1", I would suggest a support for the middle T connectors.

Is the garage heated and de-humidified?

Very nice setup!

I heard that Plake was with Elan now. He was with K2 forever...what happened with that?

Neither, but skis are always brought in the house and dried before being stored in the cold garage.  Too cold to wax in the garage either...

Is the garage heated and de-humidified?

RIGHT....

I just had a buddy drop off a pair of skis for me to tune and wax....the edges were so pitted they were black....well....he coved them in oil ...and not the olive kind and stuck them in his basement....

Last time I do them when they're that bad.....they really should be ground.

Keeping dry and high...sure makes for better edges!
