Glenn, that's definitely a park dimension ski. Ski it like any other but the tips aren't very wide so they aren't going to "bite" nearly as much as your  HR's.

Hey Glenn...I would be curious to get 3 bullet points why helmets don't make sense. This would make for an interesting topic I'm sure. Maybe a new topic.

Ok...hmmm..Driving the TT.....here's a thought....skiing in the park and in powder, you want to be as centered and neutural with your ski stance as possible. When you're skiing the TT say on a green or blue slope, if you square up your stance, hands to the front or side, are you able to apply pressure to the tips without a lot of pressure to your shins or throwing your body forward?

If not..you might consider have the bindings mounted say 1 cm forward. This would allow your center mass to be more balanced on the ski so moving your CM back and forth for tricks and powder skiing from a squared and centered stance would require less energy and motion.

Best,
Gary

3 reasons why Glen doesn't need a helmet

1-doesn't want one
2-doesn't want one
3-doesn't want one.......

as long as his brains don't splatter on me and don't have to feed him with a straw and change his diaper, I'm fine with it....

I see another thread...so I'll go in there for the helmet stuff.  :)

I have these bindings somewhat center mounted...but not exact center. They're actually back from the center...and the center binding mount on the ski isn't the true center anyways. Am I making any sense?

I'm going to take these out more this weekend so I can focus on getting used to them. I'm really used to just getting on a ski and skiing. These threw me a bit of curve; I had to adjust! Then again, I tend to like a more GS based ski. While GS skis are all different, they all basically handle in a similar manner.

Glen the mounting point is more driven by skiing style. If you are an old school rotational skier who muscles the ski around and doesn't depend on making a lot of angles, then mounting the bindings to the rear makes sense for you. I take the actual running length, go to mid-point and come forward 1 cm. (that's 10mm to Gary). This is a slightly forward mounting point that allows good control of the front portion of the ski; from under foot up to the tips. I am not a park rat but I think most park/pipe skis are mounted sllightly back from BC.

Sounds about right to me Ron. The "center" line on most TT's isn't dead center. I had mine mounted a bit back from that line. But they're still more "centered" than my Hot Rods. The guys at the ski shop told me a story of a 16/17 year old who insisted on a true center mount. The guys were concerned that it wouldn't be a very skiable ski. They ended up overuling junior and talking to the kids father. Live and learn.

Figured out why these things banged out the turns. The edges are insanely sharp. I've never seen a factory tune like this! However, they skimped on the wax. I put a nice coat of wax on with my new iron last night. Sweetness.

Took the twins out on Friday... A fresh coat of wax and the boots a bit looser made a huge difference! They certainly feel more 'all mountain-ish" now.

I'm tired...so here's a C&P TR from alpinezone:

Awesome two days! And a bunch of pics too boot.

Date(s) Skied: 11/28/2008: Black Friday

Resort or Ski Area: Mt. Snow

Conditions: Man made with a bit of natural mixed in. Nice packed powder. Cold temps with a bit of wind: 13F AM arrival, 20F PM Departure

Trip Report:

Melissa and I were on the mountain by about 9:15-9:30. The run of the morning was Snowdance. The Mt. Snow crew had blown a ton of snow and the run was just awesome. The morning started off a little cloudy, then the sun came out. We skied Snowdance for a bunch of runs before heading over to the North Face. We took a run on Chute which was pretty nice; fast hard pack, but not to scratchy. I was skiing my new twins, so we went over the Carinthia for a run. The terrain park  on Nitro was busy, but the features were awesome. After that, we went back to the main mountain. We skied Standard a few times but spent a good deal of time on Snowdance. It was skied off a bit after lunch, but the edges still had plenty of soft snow.

Pics from 11/28:
At the top of Snowdance:

Melissa had to adjust her boot before we headed out after lunch. Here's how things looked from the adirondacks outside the main lodge:

Date(s) Skied: 11/30/2008

Resort or Ski Area: Mt. Snow

Conditions: Cloudy, with afternoon snow! Temps in the 20's? I forgot to check.

Trip Report:

Wait a second. Who the hell goes skiing on day, skips a day and drives up a day later? Melissa had to work for a few hours on Saturday, plus we had plenty to do around the house. I also managed to squeak in an hour at the ski shop BSing with the guys there Saturday. Anyways....

We were in the slopes by 8:30 Sunday morning. Crowds were light today. Snowdance was pretty scratchy today. We tried Chute...same thing. The find of the AM was Mineshaft and Inferno over on Carinthia. Inferno didn't have any real features, just piles of snow. So it was pretty empty and unskied. Mineshaft is such a fun trail to bomb down at the end; so you can carry your speed at the flatter section near the snowmaking pond. Standard was pretty good today as well. Post lunch, Long John and Deer Run were actually good trails. They weren't that skied off and traffic wasn't bad at all. The snow rolled in around 1:30 and came down at a pretty good clip. Another solid day at Mt. Snow.

All smiles after a good day of skiing. Plus, it's snowing out and we're burlying back to CT in a 4WD Jeep.

Wow Glenn...you are a happy camper....

Yes...and what's not to be happy about. Conditions looked great, hat's off to the snow crew!

Our local mountain had the best early snow conditions I've ever seen with advanced and expert terrain only....and they were as good as early March snow, soft hero snow.

It was a blast. Glad you and Melissa are out enjoying too!

Best,
Gary

I'm really impressed with the conditions this early in the season. There was some freezing rain up in VT last night, so that glazed things over. But I'm sure cooler weather will roll in and they'll blow snow as soon as possible. We're going up next week from Monday to Friday...we rented a condo. Can't wait!  ;D

Ok....now you see if you moved it to one week later....you and your bride could have been laughing and skiing up a storm at Steamboat with us...

Hopefully, somewhere down the road.

Best and hoping you get tons of snow that week,

Gary

We'll get out West eventually. We're thinking of booking another weekend in VT in January.
