Congrats on being a full member! Bubbly was quaffed here last night to celebrate my graduation.

But hey, what's this? Now my fourth star is gone -- it was there last night, I swear it.? And I'm back to being a mere Full Member again! And what's more, I've only got 197 posts now....had 200 last night! I smell a conspiracy! I want my Senior Citizen status back! I've been robbed! I demand restitution! Where's Gandalf, that rascal? He's behind this, I know he is.? Show yourself, you cad! Let me have at you...broadswords at dawn!

Gandalf is up to his sneaky tricks again.? Tried to blame it on you, too.? Said you wanted me taken back to your level, but I saw right through the cunning deception.? ?;D  If he hadn't fessed up, I would have counted every post and lodged a protest.

HOW SAD IT IS ---

Svend posts this tremendous skiing review of his wife's "before and after" analysis of binding position changes, and we are left with grown men quibbling over how many stars they have.  :o

Is this the second grade again, where good behaviour gets gold and silver stars and determines whether you get to go outside to recess???   ;D

OK, you both have 5 stars now (for a while).   >:D ;D >:D

Hey, we're proud of our stars! Aren't we Perry? They symbolize our contribution and dedication to this fine forum.  We worked hard for those.  And thank you for the extra ones, Mr. Ratliff, teacher, sir.  BTW, I noticed you only have three, and we've got five!  :P (insert sound of raspberry being blown in your general direction)

Cheers,
Svend

 ;D? ;D? ;D? ;D? ;D

Yeah, I only have 3 but they are larger than yours.? ?:o

And while there are 5 stars for "FULL Members", there are only 4 for "Senior Members".? And guess who has exactly 199 posts so far and is about to become a Senior Member again?

All childishness on my part.? Will change it all back tomorrow.

Good lord, sounds like we need some fine ski measurement to be determined.
Ya know, something to keep all the boys minds engaged and out of trouble.
 ;D ;D

Very entertaining reading. Thank you.

Oh well, it was nice to have 5 stars, even for a short time.  Walked taller here, shoulders back, head held high....but just for a day...sigh...   :D

Perry...when I have a choice on binding mounting locations....ex: a binding I can slide either way without re-mounting...

I move it forward until the tails wash out when I'm carving and then move it back a bit.

And another scientific test is I put the boot in the binding, pick up the boot and ski by the boot carry loop and see where the balance point of the ski is. Now this is absolutely ludicrous for sure but it does give me a general idea how close I am to a starting point.

For the most part, my history of mounting positions..(don't go there Jim) is about 1 to 11/2 centimeter forward of center.

the 3 of us...is me...right ski and left ski.....come on now you anal retentive types....

Best,
G

Gary - I like the move it forward until tail washout, then ease back method.  More for my troubled mind to mull over.  >:D

It does make skiing, ski on snow performance sense though.

As for the boot balance, sounds like tasting urine to me ;D ;D

My dad who is a retired family physician tells a great story about being on the ward and the professor teaching them about the power of observation.  He would dip a finger into the urine and then put a finger in his mouth to taste it (never the same finger)  The unfortunate intern who wasn't using all of their powers of observation would end up tasting urine, and an unforgettable lesson on paying closer attention.

Love the story Perry.....your dad should be posting here!

That "tail wash out method" has served me well when demoing skis...Once out of the shop and after I've made 3 or 4 turns, I have the ability with most demo bindings to make a "quick here hold my gloves while I adjust the bindings" move. But usually when I demo, I ask the tech to mount the bindings 1 centimeter foward out of the starting gate.

Yep...you're correct on the balance thingy....it's just one of the weird things I do when setting up my skis.

Speaking of powers of observation -- I had to read the story twice before I caught the "never the same finger" bit.  Guess I would be one of those unfortunate ones, but then again, I'm sure their wits weren't dulled by sitting in an office all day.  I'm just not used to this.  Time for another ski day!

Gary - great tip on the tail wash out thing.  That's something I'll have to watch for, to see if my bindings are too far forward.  So far the skis are tracking beautifully, and the tails wash out only when I force 'em to skid.  But I've only had about 5 or 6 days on them, and am still getting familiar with them.

OK Jim, could you temper your enthusiasm a bit and not shout so loud?? I'm nearly deaf here.? The Viking gets a shot below the waterline, and you're screaming and yelling your head off....sheesh.? And I hope you can sew your a** back on, as you'll need at least some sort of protuberance on your lower anatomy to hold your ski pants up.? ?;D ;D

Perry, Perry....I thought you were my friend.? And out of the blue comes this little mortar, shattering my peace and tranquility on the forum.? I'd been enjoying a rather long run of it, too....no one bothering me at all...left alone to snipe at others from my longhouse, completely undisturbed.? Careful around me now if we ever ski together, otherwise you may find a pickled walrus testicle in your plum pudding, and you can taste a real Viking delicacy.? ?>:D >:D? ? Urine...pshaw...kid s stuff....
