Approaching the aspect of pole planting, may I contribute a tidbit of insight from the other gender?  I would NOT trade my Leki poles for any other carbon light weights.  The grip, for my smaller hand, is intuitive, balanced, and ultimately comfortable for all types of terrain. They are slightly contoured as well, which allows for varying radii of turns.

As for garter belts, they  are best left for apres-ski or mardi-gras events on ski slopes, next to the ladies lingerie hanging from tree branches via a long chair lift  ;).  If one requires a decoder manual for such pole attachments, serious assistance is needed, beyond HH clinics  ;D.

Gary, i think Terryl is saying she would rather keep your perverse infatuation with wearing women's attire out of her description of poles.... BUT all this banter over poles and pole grips is disturbing...... Too much analysis and not enough skiing! ???

Jessh Ron....what else is there to do until the boards touch down again?

and i can tell that Terryl needs no man to splain her viewpoint.....

and my perverse infatuation runs far beyond my gloves, garter belts, poles and slick skis..

No if I was to make a list....hmmmm..... >:D

I'd rather be skiing too!

Back to the poles in hand! The straps are permanently attached (obviously appeals to those with certain fetishes ;D).  However, if one was to follow a certain skier through the trees (rhymes with "whim"), I wouldn't wear the hand straps. The grips are tactile enough to hold without the extra security of the strap. It would be a bit safer when skiing the trees.

As for Steamboat bound skiers...........th e straps could always be removed and put to use in other ways  >:D.  Unfortunate that your departure date is tomorrow..........w e could have expedited a colourful ensemble to you, coordinating with each outfit ;) ;) ;)

Happy Leki pole planting  8)

Terryl:? Then you have obviously missed out on the tactile thrill of having a nice pair of Leki Garter Straps gently surrounding your hand, attaching firmly to your poles and providing both the soothing tactile sensations of going strapless while still retaining the poles under complete control without all of that cumbersome "strap stuff"; all the while still facilitating the shedding of such poles via the "emergency pole release mechanism" as desired.? In fact, when skiing in trees you can let go of your poles to facilitate tree avoidance maneuvers (or to push branches out of the way) and the poles remain near your palm, ready to leap back into duty at the mere suggestion of fingers seeking the familiar contours of the grip.

As far as "following" anyone through the trees (or anywhere else for that manner), I have it on good authority that you are 'whoosh and gone' and a follower not?? I am usually the follower.? I pause briefly to absorb the wonderful beauty that surrounds skiing, and when I look up all I see is disappearing ski partners off in the distance.? Gary is kind enough to wait either at the bottom of the hill or the place where I will fall trying to follow along, but I never see how he gets there.? It must be the topsheet wax.? ?;D ;D

Respectfully,

Whim.?

(I assume that is some phonetically soft Canadian enunciation for the letter J, sort of like Spanish?? We pronounce it much harder down here.)

By the way, I am a bit senile.? Have I expressed my appreciation for another female viewpoint on the forum?? Welcome!!? You may want to emphasize to Gary that you are a woman.? It took him a while to realize that "midwif" was a female (maybe the second day of skiing, or the first episode of what we lovingly refer to as boot _e_.)? No insult intended toward you Lynn.

I didn't realize pole straps were disguised as such a sensuous skiing accoutrement.  They are obviously extremely personal and those in the know are not devoid of a suggestion or opinion. After all, trees do have a way of "grounding" oneself and forcing the skier to take in the vista   ::)  Just when  you thought you had it ALL going on....... passed by your ski buddy......only to grace their presence with a gallant fall.  Actually sounds rather pleasant. ;D ;D

Soft Cdn. phonetics combined with a French vocabulary could might very well be an asset to Lynn.  We have been known to be competent in linguistic coaching. Me thinks you could be a personal puddle at the wrath of the person aforementioned  ;).

Remember, sound pole placement initiates a good turn.

Hopefully you can now understand why Gary is SO "attached" to his Leki Garters.   :o

Absolutely.? The 7 P's of skiing.? Proper Pole Placement Prevents **** Poor Performance.? ?;D ;D
Courtesy of the 6 P's of management.? (prior planning prevents ......)

as far as trees go, its not recomended to wear straps of any kind really. The Lekis will release but you really don't want anything tethered to your hands. Anything that catches will still have to create enough tension to unsnap and that will depend on the angle that the pole or arm gets snagged in a tree or branch. Even those nice soft-looking pine branches are not so soft with a little speed or rebounding from the skier in front of you.

Speaking of trees, We just finished skiing some great stuff, check out the trail map but we hit Twister trees, Closet's Shadow, preist creek, Twilight, 2 and 2:30 tress as well as some other stuff between Hurricane and other runs. Sweet Stuff. A friend from Epic, "Ski-ra" who also has a condo at the boat took us around and we really had a great time.

here's a video of some trees, a little slow but it was fun I can't embed it on this site (I don't think) http://www.flickr.com/photos/rlcpics/3351448053/
We skied bascially all of these!
