I am pretty sure that Harald was skiing IM 78's in a 177 in the powder. On the groomed stuff, I am pretty sure he is on Head Super Shapes in a 170. He actually skied the pow in his SS's as well that trip and I guarentee that none of us (or anyone else watching) could tell the difference. Technique comes first. Equipment can only go so far in aiding poor technique and that is coming from a bona fide gear nut!!!

Oh my! HH and I have the same quiver! Quick, I need some hellbents to keep from being a HH clone.

the correct term is a "harbit" , "Harble" or a member of the "the cult"   ;D

Also, let not forget he weighs about 135pounds?  the skis in he video appear to have a  black top sheet, there is some vesrion of the 78 in black, but I doont rememeber what is is called.  I remember Ross Talyor in Beaver Creek (still teachess there) from the Aussie natl coaching staff used to ski with his Dynastar speed course 66's all season. I skied with him in 18" andnd he just carved it up like a madnman, same thig as skiing with Eric last month on his 4x4's. Both happen to be about 5' 6" and 130 pounds as well. I am starting  to think, thats the best size to be a skier???

HMM, I have hope.
Maybe 5'4" and 120 lbs will be the real best size?

I am ALWAYS happy to provide an unwitting, but TRUE fairway for a great riposte.

Carry on. ;D

He did have a set of IM 78 Chips on that trip. He was the only one that could ski them off piste. They are too stiff and in general unfriendly except on groomed where they rock. Harald is 5 10" 150. For cycling I would like to be 5 6" 140, for everything else I am fine with my size.

HMMMM.? I'm just glad that you don't really ski at 156 like you indicated was the case in these very pages some number of years ago.

And besides, you've told me that size doesn't really matter (in skiing).  It's all about whether or not you enjoy it. (unlike biking, where you continually remind me that I'm 55 lbs over weight).

Ahh!  Yes, the chips, i think thats what they are then! Thanks.  Beautiful terrain, that's exactly the kind of stuff I love add it a few more trees and couple of small rocks to drop off of and I'll take it!

G,
You'd do more than OK in the sequence of following HH. When I grow up, I wanna be just like you.

Does JC have You-Tube hits available that show him doing recent stuff? Did you get any video down in Chile?

And for the record, Icelantic's are one ski I'd love to demo. One aspect I remember about yours were how light they were and you sure get them on edge.

Thanks Mike? ?;D

If you go to Johns web site you can see video of him skiing bumps with students...however that does not demostrate the full extent of his tip and counter at higher speeds. Unfourtunately I do not have video of him at Chile with one run that comes to mind. We had been work on this steep pitch to make a bump run. Over and over again making SRT, I followed him and Chino making this deep 2 foot trench. Got to the point I couldn't ski it at their pace..I backed off and watched. These guys were glued to this zipper line trench at high speeds creating all sorts of angles with feet and body and they did it for hours...amazing.

Mke, I think the Icelantic Pilgrim would be a perfect carv, bumps, powder ski for you. Since we have similar ski styles, the Pilgrims can really be brought up on great edge angles, suprising for a ski with a 90mm waist..

On the weight / ski thing...I know for me skiing my SS 66 underfoot, in boot to shin high snow.....at my 158 lbs.....working the feet together....loads of fun. One just has to pay MUCH more attention to what's happening below the knees. My wife skiing her Kastles with 78 underfoot and at 110 lbs....yeah...that's right.she's looking to get into waist high snow.....just for the challenge.

Hopefully Mike, you can get a demo on a pair of Pilgrims before JH...if not...I think they have them there and maybe Ron could check with the Icelantic folks so a demo could be arranged for ya.

Best,
G

mike what ya weighing these days?  Not sure if JH sports picked them up. I will call and find out. I was hoping they picked up Nomads as well. I am not sure a pilgrim at 179 (actually closer to 177) is enough for big guys over 210 ish. at that point, I would say maybe a stiffer board like a Prophet 90 would be better or even the new Head 88 (no metal) if you want to stick to HH approved skis. :)

Proud to say I'm down to 191. 3+ months of road biking pays off. Now, how to make sure it stays off???
