Maybe a Vulcan with a dry sense of humor probably crossing the line into sarcasm.

Forgive me if I've made a newbie bumble.  I do have to admit that I'm scratching my head a little bit on the question of why outsiders would think the site has something to do with PTMS.  Hmmm.  Well, there have been an awful lot of posts proclaiming that there is no true other way to ski.  Could have something to do with that.

Beastieboy,
I admit to a more than a little bit of Vulcan humor crossing over into sarcasm. ;D

With respect to PMTS, when I started posting here 2+ years ago, JB, Lynn and ToddW were the only other PMTS true believers.....JimR was, and remains, more into skiing for the experience (and hanging out with Lynn) as opposed to the "one true way". Since then, Max, Helluva, meput and High Angles have joined so the majority are pro-PMTS. Here, it's more of site where we can just hang out with friends, as compared to defending against the attacks. While how I ski and technique is important, with all the other stuff that goes on in life, how I turn my skis is just not worth shedding blood or interpersonal relationships over. Judging people based on technique beliefs is silly and stupid.

I hope no one is ever reluctant to open discussions about technique due to a bias by some members to a specific method. (Just don't give me the crap that "it's all good"). Forgive me, I just have to work some sarcasm in someplace!

LP:  Thank you for the gracious way you categorized it.  Much better than just sayin' that I'm a crappy skier.  :o
Actually I would say I'm more of a "true believer" (at least in mind set) than you can see in my skiiing. I attended my first  PMTS camp at Copper Mtn some 10 years ago and two more since then and it's made a tremendous difference in my skiing; I'm still trying to conform to the movement basics, but I'm just a "less particular practitioner".

...

Jim, you are not a "crappy skier". Are you good enough to ski anywhere you so choose? Yes. Are you experienced enough to know when you are on terrain and/or conditions, that you feel over your head and not safe? Yes. Are you experienced enough to know what terrain you are confident on, feel safe, and therefore, having fun. Absolutely yes. I have skied with you and watched you have a great time on terrain and in conditions that you feel confident. That makes you a successful and responsible skier - not a "crappy skier".

If you insist on being "a less particular practitioner", I hope all the other skiers I encounter are "less particular practitioners" as good as you are.

Nice words, and "thank you". However, you need to allow me to be a bit self-deprecating; it's in my DNA. I don't really think I am a crappy skier.
Actually, i can often ski much better than at MRG last year. They lost our skis on the plane and neither Lynn nor I were very comfortable with what we were on. I was really glad to get my Super Shapes back on our third (and final) day.

What initially attracted me to start posting here was that it's attached to a gear-centric site (I'm more of a gear **** than anything) and the fact that it permitted the viewpoints of everyone when it comes to skiing.  It would be great to see this site grow into a major forum while maintaining a level of civility when discussing skiing technique that may not agree with everyone's viewpoint.

There are many ways to get down a mountain.  It's all about "preferences" to me (just as HH says in his latest free skiing DVD).

We are looking forward to your 20-50 ski reviews this winter.

I too would like to see it grow, but don't want to lose the sense of community that we currently enjoy. Those may be opposing goals. I also like that it's not a commercial site, except for the minor ads that sport the hosting costs.
