Hmmm, I will have to say "no" to the spats, they may look good on the wall though.  One woman is enough....Thanks!

Hey Greg...the 82's for me are just a fantastic ski. I'm 5'9, 155lbs and have skied them in powder, groomers,  spring snow, and soft western bump runs and they rock. I ski the 172 length.

Heads up though...(no pun intended) when I brought the skis home from the shop, before I skied them. I was putting on the first 10 coats of wax (thanks Jim) I noticed that there was a rise in the metal where the side edge and the shovel radius come together. I just wrote it off as a quality control  issue and skied them. As I contined to wax them after hard ski days, I noticed that rise seemed to get more pronounced.

The good news for me was when I took them back a week ago, they told me there had been a few bad manufacturing runs and they resolved the problem. I've got this years model being sent  for me.

If you're not seeing what I described when I first got my skis, I'm guessing you're probably OK. Otherwise, take them back to any shop that sells Heads. It's a known problem and I'm pretty sure they would make it right. The guys at my local shop were great to work with so they must have good support from Head on this issue.

Just as a side, I have the Mojo bindings and I've decided after much consternation (no not constipation) to have the bindings mounted 1 centimeter forward of the standard position. Having skied them this last season in the standard setting, they were 90% perfect with the exception being firm snow. I felt I just couldn't leverage the shovel enough so I'm moving them forward a bit. Will let all know the results when the new, overwaxed bottoms and highly shiny top skins meet snow for the first time.

Hey Jim...it's Ron's clothes that have the woman spooning and swooning for him...just stand back cause you'll get mowed down!

Best,
Gary

I'm going to put the LD12's on these unless i run across a good deal on some PX12's.  I like the Railflex because of the fore and aft adjustment capability.  I also tend to do a little CRS analysis on these before they're drilled.  This looks like a great ski for my western adventures but I want to really be able to put those shovels to work.  I'm looking forward to these and the new i.xrc 1200's that I'm going to be riding on the Midwest hardpack...

Don't know what your height and weight are but it sounds like a great combo. I actually considered the Railflex bindings but since the 82 is pretty much my powder ski, I was thinking the stock mounting was OK....but hey....we all set up differently on skis.

FInding that sweet spot just takes some patience, on snow feel, and the guts for the go ahead and make the change.

Do you see any popping of the metal edge near either of your shovels?

Well get those doggies out of the plastic in case you've got to knock on someones door.

Don't be the late squirrel chasing around looking for nuts the early squirrels gobbled up.....

Besides...I'm curious to know.

Greg, did you ever demo the 82?

I will ignore Gary's constipation issues but he is correct about the ski and binding. I had HD14's on my 82's and if you are using for more groomed or a mix of groomed and off-piste, its a good way to go. If you are using like Gary go flat as possible. Either way, if you mount with Ty bindings, you extend the warrenty to 2 years.

Ok...I'm overlooking the constipation remark...cause if you personally are sensitive to nuts....I understand. I'll be sure to bring bags of them for you to the "boat".

Greg, remember you don't have to ski them to actually notice the lifting of the metal edge. I noticed them when I got them home and into the ski vice. They actually came from the factory already slightly raised and proceeded to get worse when I skied them.

Nothing irregular looking at this point.? Never demoed them.? I was looking for a longer ski in the low to mid 80's width and they were well thought of in all the reviews I read.? I snatched these off of REI's website in June I think at a price that I just couldn't pass up.? Like some of you guys. I ski the Boat yearly and I figured this would be a great ski for that sort of trip in all but real powder situations.? I won't hesitate to givem em a run on the Midwest hardpack either.? Now if I could only find some 88's   :P

GReg, are you joining us?  You will love the 82's. I had them, i just wanted something wider and bit softer for the boat but they rock on any condition. They absolutely love to rip on soft groomers.

I had originally intended to go.  Currently there is a family event in Jackson Hole the exact same days.  I know full well the snow will be much better at the Boat early season but the "politics" are lengthy...  If not this year, then another.
