I believe that you can also buy higher placement in Google search results -- Epic may be doing that as they are a more commercial site.

Epic doesn't buy their placement on search engines. The main driver of people to epicski is gear. Search most any top model from nearly any brand in the last 7 to 10 years and epicski has a thread on it, or one that mentions it. They are not ignorant of this either...
