Recruiting New Members
« on: September 29, 2011, 09:36:23 am »
All,

As we approach the start of a new season, it would be great to expand the number of people who post on our site. I consider the RS site to be a community of friends, most of whom I have never met. I enjoy the relationships but am always thinking we need others, both to open new topics and to expand on existing. It just keeps it fresh. Diversity of thought is a good thing...as long as we remain civil. Our highest level groundrule is to treat others as you would wish to be treated.

So, I'm asking each to consider recruiting someone who is open to posting about the skiing world. The person can sign-up via the site. I will send out a welcome e-mail and introduce the member in a new post.

If you have any thoughts or ideas, just respond. Should you have a relationship with someone who posted in the past, consider inviting them to rejoin.

Mike

ok, I just sent a link to this page to 5 good skiing friends with a nice plug for this community.  We might get one of them.

Hey...just like going to church eh...

Hmmmm....will there be a basket to pass?

I think it's a great idea Mike...Many may be in summer hybernation but winter is now around the corner.

Jim and Mike...is there a list of former members we can reach out and touch?

I think it would be a great place to start....A PM to former members to come back to the fold would be very nice...their insight is very welcome.

Excellent idea.  With the "Membership Director's blessing" I will do that.
Living "Membership Director" Proof.  If you will send me the desired content, I will send a PM to all members (young and old).

How does this site differ from Epic? Tighter moderation? Open discussion of any ski system? What makes this site special?

I like to think looser moderation. You can talk any ski system you want.
Moderation is based on keeping things civil.
No personal attacks.

This is a smaller, more intimate forum than Epic, but for any forum to thrive there has to be some diversity and growth.
While most here are PMTS oriented learners, anyone is welcome to join.

I think RealSkiers has a niche because of the thoughtful conversation that occurs.
There is a maturity on this site that keeps subjects in perspective, even when opinions diverge.
And enough immaturity to keep it fun.

And it would be great to keep it alive as its original function; as a consumer based ski review site.

Well said Lynn..

For Sure...Dawg is a great guy that knows how to test skis.....would love to have him on board here.

Certainly when looking for a new ski...I think it's important to get a wide review of skis..and THEN demo.

Real Skiers provides a great base testing forum but hearing from others like Harold, Dawg, Teton and others is a great way to get a cross section view of todays skis. Works for me anyways.

I got one big difference with this forum from Epic...you're on this forum! :D

I agree with you about dawgcatchings' reviews, they are very good and broad-based in their scope and appeal.

While it would be lovely if Dawgcatching joined up here, I wonder if his relationship with epic would prohibit him. Hopefully not.

And I hope that you continue to join in here Max 501. Provocateur PMTSer! :)

I missed my life calling-I should've worked for Amway.

Beastie Boy, huh?  Well that's a little to cutting edge for Ralicki....so I can narrow it down by one.

Hey Liam,

I won't torture you too much on this.  I'm not particularly gifted in the hair gene department.  Doesn't narrow it down enough?  Grew up in Maine as well.

As a skier, I have skied for a long time, but at 50 don't recover from injuries as well as I used to, so I'm more conservative these days.  I'm 6'2" and about 205lb.  Liam can probably describe my skiing better than I can - he sees me from a more objective viewpoint.  But... I like skiing crud, bumps, steeps, getting to enjoy trees more.  Most of my skiing is in the NE, with most of that time at Berkshire East and a little bit of time in VT and occasionally back in Maine.  I've skied out west a few times, but with 5 kids that sort of trip doesn't take place too often.  With college for the oldest right around the corner, I expect it will happen even less!

Off season, I bike some - both road and Mt.  Play a little tennis as well.  I'm not a particularly good technical mt biker, but it's a blast.

I look forward to getting to know everyone here on the forums. :)

Welcome John...sounds like your experience raising 5 kids makes you the perfect new member!..We have 5 ourselves.

Gonna be another great season with lots of interesting things to discuss....glad to have you on board.

Hmmm...come on Liam...what's up with the hair gene thing....is it like "splice, dice and ya get thrice"?

John...your favorite skis for NE skiing?

Best, g

Beastie Boy's kids absolutely rip on skis-honestly, that's one big family that would eat up a western vacation.  Speaking on gear, did you ever find the ebay powder ski of your dreams?  And if so will you keep it out of the hands of your sons?
