@jim-ratliff,

You asked about patrollers.  Our area has indeed stipulated that 100% of patrollers will be helmeted this year.  I'm pretty sure that there are a few of our group that have never worn one.  Most are OK with this, a few are not.

I have mixed emotions - I'm kind of a live and let live sort of guy.  If someone wants to take crazy risks with their life, so be it (not that skiing without a helmet is the craziest thing ever).  That being said, I take my responsibility as a role model seriously - to my kids and to the skiing public.  I personally chose to limit risk without destroying fun whenever possible.  I always wear one and except for a few days in the spring find it to be comfortable.  Personally I think that all kids should wear one - or at least their parents should make an informed decision not to have them wear one.  There are certainly a few people who are alive today because they wore one, but hopefully the vast majority of us will never have a reason to thank our lucky stars that we had one on (outside of the lift line).
