I actually stumbled across a great deal on radios this weekend. I got a pair of Midland GXT600's for $65 including the two rechargeable batteries and two ear/microphones. ?These are 5 watt units so I am thinking that you may get a 2-3 miles on the mountain which should be fine. The nice part is that they are VOX capable so you have the hands free ability. We will have to see how well they work with wind blowing, unless they are shielded mic's (which I doubt) they may not work well. This way one group can have one. I would think however, that it will be useful to have a few up there so if som ego in for a break or get separated, we can meet up.
