Width Underfoot Question
« on: December 10, 2007, 12:10:00 am »
Hey everyone,

I'm trying not to make this a, "what ski should I buy thread". There seems to be a lot of those.

I will be skiing all winter in Utah, mostly Park City, Deer Valley, and the Canyons. My question is: how wide should I go for a one-ski quiver? I'm looking for something about 50/50 on/off piste.  I'd like it to be able to do bumps, but that isn't the biggest priority.  I'll be skiing a lot of groomed but when powder is freshly available, I'll be on that.. I am 6'3, 195 lbs, and about a 6 or 7 intermediate/advanced who plans on doing a lot of improving this winter.

The Head Monster 78/82 and Watea 78/84 seem to be getting a lot of buzz so far this year. Do ya'll think 78 is wide enough for my purposes?

Thanks

Hmmmm 50/50 front and back side.

The Watea 94 is a supurb turning ski capable of skiing well in all but hardpack conditions...which you probably won't get there.

Having owned the IM 82 and now the Watea 84, of the two, I find the Watea more versatile and fun ski.

I skied both the Watea 84 and 94 on groomed terrain, broken snow and in nice soft bumps on black terrain and the WOW factor was there.

Given your weight, I don't think you could go wrong period with the 94....it's a dynamite ski. If you want something a bit quicker under foot, then the 84 might be the ticket. The 94 will obvioulsy give you more float in deeper snow but depending on your ski skills, even the 84's will dance in knee high for ya!

Be nice if you could demo.....let us know what you decide.

Have a great season!

agreed, the only thing that makes me sway towards the 84 is your level.
