I was on a chairlift yesterday....
« on: June 18, 2008, 10:17:59 am »
Myself and a few buddies took the day off to go ATVing. We drove up to Massachusetts to ride Pittsfield State forest. There's a trail that leads from the forest, to the backside of Jiminy Peak ( www.jiminypeak.com ) This trail was designed to allow snowbilers access to summit lodge. They park their sleds on the boarder of the ski area, walk short distance and they're at the lodge. We did the same yesterday...parked and walked over the top of the mountain.

At our season ending ride last year, (late November) the lifts were running and people were skiing and boarding. I thought to myself yesterday: "If Jiminy's open, Mt. Snow will def be open. And if that's the case, you'll be skiing instead of ATVing in November." HA!

So here we are on the lift. I think they run it on weekends for Mt Bikers. I'm the goof on the right in the red jersey. Keen observers will note my black, NOT purple riding boots.  :D

And a few more pics:

Ron:

I think you need to install a lift in your back yard.  That way you could just step out to the lift, get on, and then watch ski **** on your laptop.  C

Close to the real thing???

Like your thinking!  That's an excellent Idea.

Nice pics.  Reminds me of taking the kids down the slide at Stowe in the summer.  We took another ride to  the top and walked down.  Walking down a black diamond trail with no snow is a trip.  Couldn't help throwing in a few turns.

A few years ago I took my husband and son up to the Lake Placid area to check on a piece of land that was being auctioned off. We arrived at night and woke up the next morning to a blaze of autumn colors.
We hiked up Whiteface mountain to the smaller of the two peaks. Quite a work out. Decided to NOT do the walk down, too hard on the knees, so rode the lift back down. A VERY different perspective to be walking/hiking where one normally skis. Was a lot of fun.

Oh and I got out- bid (not surprising) on the land at the auction. :(

A lot of my running buddies are buying property in the mountains of North Carolina for vacation and eventual retirement.  Nice to have the mountains and beach nearby.  Wife won't do it (move to N.C. you gutter heads) because of....whatever.

It's cool visiting ski areas in the summer. Everything looks a lot different when all the snow is gone and the leaves are on the trees.

The Blowing Rock and Boone area of North Carolina is very pretty, cool in summer, cold in winter.? Tremendous overlooks from the mountains down into the North Carolina flatlands.? There are even a couple of small ski "resorts" in the area that have been struggling recently.?

However, you can drive all the way across Florida faster than you can get from the North Carolina mountains to the North Carolina beaches.? It is at least a 4 hour drive, and if you are going to Hatteras/Outer Banks make that at least 5.

Ha!  I looked it up, Clay County.  It is the second most western county in NC.  LOOOOONG trip to the beach.  Shorter than Colorado though.
