Finding YOUR balance point on your skis I think is one of the most critical factors in ski performance.
This is the point from which all movements small or large muscles initiate are transformed to your skis. If your binidng location has your center mass to far to the rear of the ski, you'll feel like your always in the back seat. Too far forward, your tails will wash out every turn.
I've actully experimented with this on a new pair of skis and by doing so, I could really feel and identify the most optimal position for me personally to ski in. I moved the bindings to their extreme distances and could really appreciate how the performance was impacted.
Fortunately, many of the new bindings your seeing on skis are adjustable allowing the rider the opportunity to experiment with the location of the center mass. Last year middle of the season, I actually had my Fischer Watea 84's mounted initially 1 centimeter forward and then went back to have them move it 1 additional centimeter. The difference was huge and it allowed me to ski much more centered and effortlessly.
Ron too had a similar experience when we skied at Jackson Hole last season. He wanted to rent a pair of powder boards and as luck would have it, they had the Watea 94's. Based on discussions we had regarding center mass, Ron asked the tech to move the bindings (easy with demo bindings) 1 centimeter forward. Ron was blown away what that wee bit of difference made with that ski.
I think it's important to take advantage of this factor. Find your center mass on your ski and you'll be amazed how much more control you have with your sweet boards!
Best,
Gary
