Making the move....selling my Watea 84's

Ok Gang...Hmmm....thou ght I'd be happy with my Watea 84's forever....

What I found for me, the Super Shapes and the Watea 84's had to much cross over capablity. I ski my SS up to boot high and then out came the Watea 84's.

Well I had a chance to ski the 94's (Ron's) and felt they were also very responsive in bounds but gave the extra extra float on the deeper days, shin high and above.

So when Ron said he was selling the Watea 94's....what's a poor soul to do..yes I caved into "Goat Boys" temptation....just too easily.

SO...if any of you are looking to move up to a bit wider ski that can turn super well on groomers, handles bumps, works great in broken snow and can be used for that powder ski too....

I purchased it in October 2007, it's a 176 length, has the MOJO 15 binding on it....and it's in great condition only being skied 20 times this past season.

Asking $320 shipped. I'm hoping to get some pictures up shortly.

Its a great ski for sure and if you recall, I owned it as well. I had the same overlap problem. It's a ski that is quick, nimble, light underfoot and skis shorter than the 176 indicates. If you normally ski a 170+/-, this is a ski you should consider if in the market for a soft snowed biased ski. Also, very good in bumps.

NOTE: this ski has not been pee'd on.......   but the topsheets have been waxed......

A ski overlap question.  I understand Ron's unique position, so I will ask Gary if you are planning on bringing both skis on most of your ski trips this year even with the possible baggage surcharges, or are you looking at primarily taking one ski based on the destination.

I'm planning on iM78's when west and only using the SuperShape Magnums for here in the east (exception, I will take the somewhat narrower waisted SuperShape to Harb camp).

Hey Jim....For me...I have a 2 ski hardcase and if the airlines are going to charge me for bringing an extra bag...might as well have 2 skis in it.
But when traveling with ALice out west, I may just bring the one case with both our carving skis in it rather than pay the extra cost for the other hard case we have. Then I could rent fat skis if the powder does commeth. Having said that, if the forecast is snow, snow, snow...I'm bringing both.

No question everyone says the IM78 is an excellent all mountain ski performer. My personal preference is to have the ski that best works for the condiions I'm skiing. I believe there's a huge cross over capability between your Magnum and 78....given the 71mm waist and wide shovel and tail on the magnum.

I think for RSIII, you might consider bringing the SSMag....it think you'll get double your pleasure and double your fun....it's quicker edge to edge, more lively, and much more versatile up to boot high snow.

Now..if your in the market for a wider waist ski....hmmmmmm.... .....I just so happen to have a 84mm waisted Watea that would give you better coverage for a greater variety of snow conditions out west than the IM78.

If it were me with your skis for Steamboat...I'd bring the SS Mag without hesitation.

I'd bring the 84's......   Seriously, that's the ski to bring.

Now that cassara talked me into selling my beloved 94's I don't really have an everyday ski for there. I may bring out the Dynastars but right now I am planning on using the goats unless I can score the Hart Pulses. (long story) If the snow is soft, even soft groomed, the 94's are the choice for me.

OK, not to **** on anyones preferences (no pun inteneded) but I do have to say the 78 wasn't my favorite head by far but it was a very good ski; I did think it was a lot of ski however and the 171 was plenty of board for me. Skis like that the 78, the Elan 888, Dynastar MR, Legend pro are some boards where I think going down one size (to groomer size) is advised. If you are planning on carving and actively skiing stiffer more demanding boards, I think they are just a little more user friendly. I didn't ski the 78 in a 177, so I can't say for sure, just my .02.

Big Boy skis? Yes, I have been dragging gary along the path to wider skis for some time now. For his size, the 94 really is perfect for knee-high powder. BUT he will still not ski them in anything less than boot-high powder.  ( I will now duck under my desk)

Ok now having loved the 84's and had a secret thingy for the 94's...I happily move toward the fa-ter board....for a bit more float and still with that inccredible carveaiblity....

So big boy ski here I come and yes...it's my boot high and above....the rest gets crushed by Gandolfs white horse...SS steed! High oh Silver......wait... wrong show I think!
