When last out there, I asked someone about it. (I forget who though). Anyway, they said that while the large trees would succumb, the smaller trees are not affected. And that there is evidence that this may be a natural cycle that nature goes thru. Though the risk of fire (even if part of natures plan) seems pretty likely. I wonder if they plan some controlled burns or pruning of the dead trees around clusters of younger trees. A big undertaking to handle the acreage.

Another cause is that the winters do not get cold enough , longe enough. The beetles aren't killed off.

Geez ya know for a free pass, I bet ya they could get 1000's of skiers and boarders that would go up their with cordless vacums, chop sticks, and other beetle havoc devices to rid the infestation..

Now someone run with that idea!
