There are no Head ski reviews in the ski review section of the latest SKI magazine. That kinda ruffles my feathers.

Yes, I noticed that as well.? I don't know whether that means that Head didn't bring any skis to the session or that the skiers didn't feel that any of the Head skis were worthy of Gold Medal categorization.

I assume that everyone is aware that this web site is owned/provided by Peter Keelty associated with his RealSkiers web site.? In addition to some excellent articles, the real value of Peter's site is the ski reviews -- reviews that are done by Real Skiers and not by pro skiers.? See http://www.realskiers.com/ for more information.? There are lots of skiers that agree that these reviews are more on-target and useful for the vast majority of skiers than those of the the SKI and SKIING magazines.? I think Peter is planning on starting posting reviews and stuff in September.

Also, since the reviews go back several years, it makes it very easy for someone looking to buy skis 'cost effectively' to look back at prior year reviews and know which older skis were hits and not.? For some, that alone is worth the $20 price.

If any of you stumbled across this forum and aren't subscribers to RealSkiers, I highly suggest that there is tremendous value in the site, well worth the $20 per year.? Note that neither Gary, Ron, Midwif, nor I are at all associated with RealSkiers other than we are paying members and we volunteered last year to help Peter keep the content appropriate (the forum was having severe Spam/**** attacks).

Not a sermon or sales pitch, just a thought.

I am always looking forward to Peter's reviews - overall they are the best. Recently have bought Head and Elan skis, largely based on Peter's reviews and very happy with the purchases. Also, dawgcatching on epicski posts excellent reviews.

Yes, Head and Fisher seemed to dominate a lot of the good word of mouth the past few seasons. Perhaps other companies are pushing their new products/construction etc, while Head continues with a good thing. But not so exciting since its not "new".

To be honest, I wonder why the hoopla over that issue. Is this issue just a sentinel event signalng the beginning of ski season?

I am one of the least knowledge people around when it comes to skis. And even before I found Peter Kelty "On the SNow" column, I found the reviews of boots and skis useless in helping to make ski-buying decisions. They never said a BAD thing about ANY ski!!! Every review was positive.

I also have my copy of SKI and did read in there that skis that were improperly tuned did not make the final cattle call.

Maybe, some other manufacturers didn't bring their A game to the test.

Maybe, they didn't want to pay to be reviewed as I have heard in the past..

In all honesty, I always liked SKI and SKIING to look at the pretty pictures and ready the testers comments.

Jim as a side note...the testers are not all pro riders. My wife and I tested for SKI PRESS, I have friends that tested for SKIING....he is a manager of a ski store, there are patrolers, instructors, techies....etc.

Anyways,...by my standards, this site is still the best way to get non-bias feedback on skis....still the skiers impression....as we know....ya still gotta get out and demo before ya buy.

Absolutely, and he is a good source to buy from. I have bought a couple of pair of skis from him, and I'm pretty sure Ron has as well.? In fact, my iM78's were from him.

Lynn:? I think you hit on it.? The receipt of the SKI magazine Gold Medal Test results mark the beginning of one part of ski season (the part where everyone rips the magazines testing process and results).   ;D >:D

You have to pay to play to get your skis reviewed.

rumor has it, (more info on epic) that Head may have not submitted skis to them for this season's reveiws. I woudn't be suprised. That said, aside from the new 94, Head really didnt introduce much new product. Since the reviews are really aimed at promoting new skis, it may have been a good move by head in the long run.
