Going to the mountain
« on: August 28, 2008, 10:13:20 am »
It's been over 4 months since we were last at Mt. Snow. This weekend, they're having a "Beer Fest"..woohoo! So we're heading up Saturday, staying in Dover and we'll do a little drinking and Mt. Biking. It'll be good to see the mountain again. It's always interesting to see the mountain, and the drive up to the mountain in full summer bloom.

I think that "lite beer" is a misnomer in vermont.
Up there, you put on your magic hat and then ride your fat tired mountain bike. :D

Movin' to the country?  ;D

We had a great time. We went up to Manchester Saturday...right from CT. We then picked up route 100 in some random town and drove South to Dover. I always wanted to know how to get from Stratton to Snow...or the other way around...now I do. The weather was awesome too....perfect days.

Holy crap! TONS of ski shop sales! Tent sales everywhere. We hit one tent sale on the way up. My wife scored a vest, and two pairs of ski socks. Everything was half off. We passed a few more, and figured we'd hit them after Manchester. No dice since we left Manchester around 6PM.  :'(

Stayed at a nice Inn only a few miles from Snow. We did a little Mt Biking on Sunday...then more ski sales! I scored set of composite poles for $20...and my wife and I got two pairs of spring skiing gloves. I swear, it was like Steep and Cheap up there...sans the shipping.

I found two pairs of used twin tips for $199 each. I thought that was a pretty good price given the condition the skis were in. However, I didn't pull the trigger for one reason: Demo bindings. Had they been mounted with regular ones, I would have gone for it. Oh well. I'll keep looking. Currently, there are a few sets on e-bay, for new flat skis. Maybe I'll go that route....

Oh, and we did hit the brewfest! It was packed! They had a ton of beers to choose from.

Hey Glenn...sounds like a romantic get away with fringe benefits...many!

Glad the weather co-operated as well.

So...what is the drive time between Stratton and Snow?

I'm hoping to get to Okemo and maybe Stratton this year....is it worth the drivetime for a weekend get away to visit SNow?

Take a minute to post up what kind of skis you're looking for and your army at hand will attemt to service those needs.

Best,
Gary

I am assuming you are looking for full twins for park use? Let us know what you are looking for.  Sounds like you had a great time!

I wish I timed it better! ?>:( ?I was focused on finding the turnoff to Rt 100. "Was it 15 minutes passed Equipe sports?"

My google map directions say it's about an hour from Snow to Manchester. Given Stratton is 15 minutes away from Manchester (give or take) I'd say about 45 minutes between the two.

I like Mt. Snow...so does my wife. I find it's a little less "high brow" than Stratton. But you do get your share of tri-staters (NJ, NY and CT) ?I've always found Mt. Snow and Stratton to be pretty even as fair as size and terrain.

I was looking to get a used set of twin tips to use in the terrain park. While my Hot Rods aren't super premium skis...they are my first new pair in 10+ years...so I'd like to keep them for cruising the main mountain...and not hammering jumps or boxes...or the other crazy crap you can run over in a terrain park. My Hot Rods are 178's and I'm happy with that size. I'd certainly not object to going a bit shorter in a twin.

Okemo is a nice mountaiin with a small, but very pleasant town.  How about trying for a small ski meeting there this winter??
A three day weekend perhaps??
(Mondays are sacrsanct work days for me, so must be a friday, sat, sun, in my case).

Any thoughts??
