Ski Magazine

I picked up the buyer's guide issue over the weekend and gave some of it a read. I used to subscribe to this mag back in the day. One thing I noticed...the magazine seemed a lot thinner. The content was still there, but you didn't have to flip through 5 pages of ski coat ads to get to the next section of reviews.

With the information that is out there as soon as next years skis hits the snow in January..I cannot fault the mags for being conservative with their product. Most manufacturers already have 09-10 gear being finalized, it is just a matter of months before they are leaked.

I was just surprised with the size of the magazine. The older versions seemed to have a lot more ads. I don't know if that's the product of a reformat....or if the companies are moving away from using print medial.

I think what you say is tru Phil. Now that I think of it, they used to review a lot more stuff...like kids gear. And I thought they did a sections on jackets and stuff. Not reviews, but rather, photoshoots.

Print ads are dead. those were the days prior to the internet and manufacturers having their own website.

Is it just me or is the information on the skis in "ski magazine" useless compared to the information provided on this site?  Really, it is just more marketing gibberish.

My completely uninformed, amateur opinion that the magazine reviews are useless. As someone who read them 5-10 years ago to try and and fine guidance, BEFORE I had an idea of what skis are about, found them useless. No real advice in them.
Given what Phil says "they pay to play", makes their uselessness even more evident.
Yes, this site is the BOMB for solid feedback. Not the be all and end all, but even Peter says that.

It's certainly a lot more "rosey" in the mags. Still, I like to have something to flip through and read. It's nice to be able to read about all the new models at one time.

ski ****,,,, good,.,,,,

Ski press.com is decent, TGR and Epic along of course with Peters.

I play a game with the rags; find the same two ski reviewed that are most differently reviewed.
