tipping board
« on: November 01, 2008, 07:50:39 am »
Today I plan to build a tipping board.  Anyone out there do this and how much did it help?  I would post on the PMTS site but looking for perhaps more objective and age related info ( I'm over 49  ;D)

trtaylor built one and posted photos on the pmts forum, and he fits your demographic requirement.? He used a couple of threaded pipe flanges to vary the angle while providing steady support.? He's a good guy and checks the ski forums often; why not send him a pm on the pmts forum?

Hmmm.....some of us are old, some are not...but the group I've met and skied with that post here...nope, not fat.....

Nope...no fat people not that it would make a difference...I have a very good friend who is a "fat" person and a heck of a bike rider.

Today....fat is not necessarily akin to non-athletic. So ya see, you may not be an old fat dude, ya might be slightly porky and with proper ski atire, (guided by Ron) no one would ever know. ( you know that whole vertical and horizontal stripe thingy)

So stand up and be proud of your fat...be it 5 lbs or 25 lbs more that ya want..slap on those boards, and ski your ass off....well that actually might hurt...but hey....there goes those extra un-wanted pounds.  >:D

the difference is that typical PMTS devotee skier tend to be older,  not ncessarilly fat! They tend to be a more of a "gentlemen" skier. that's a late starting skier who wants to gain ability quickly become decent enough to enjoy the mountain and have good effecient form. I still say PMTS is the best method going for those who can learn it.  It is a different mindset than your hard-charging, tree-bashing BC skier. They aren't really concerned with form or effeciency , its just good enough; its just about the skiing. Neither is better, neither is worse. As long as you both enjoy the mountain and have fun.  Personally, it's all good and I enjoy skiing with anyone who is having fun on the slopes.

Ron & Gary:

Yep, you seem to have me targeted.   ;D ;D

Older when I started skiing, even older now, 25 lbs overweight (but I do enjoy bike riding).

Have become aware of the fact that when I run into trees things really might break.  Aware of the fact that I don't heal as quickly as 30 years ago, and also aware of how I learn and what I need to understand.  Have never been a "just do it" person, always needed the technical understanding of the why's and wherefore's.  Seldom willing to accept that "I'll never be any better at something than I am today."

Well Ditto me on all that Jim....well except for the 25lbs part... ::)

AND I've heard that you have trimed yourself down to be that lean mean skiing machine. Were you featured in some TV show or tabloid mag?

The cameras will be a clicking!  ;D

LOL:? You guys must have me confused with Jay Ratliff of the Dallas Cowboys (6'4", 298 lbs)??? ?;D ???

But yes, there have been a number of life awakenings and changes since last year.?
18 months ago I bought my first pair of 38" waist pants.? ? :o
Last month I bought my first pair of 34" waisted pants since I was 26 years old (and they fit comfortably).? 8)

And since the group has been so wonderfully supportive, I guess I should admit that I've decided to accept your advice and bring the SuperShape Magnums to Steamboat and (maybe) sell the iM78's. :D

I bow to you oh once portly southern gentleman.....you are the newer James Bond version of yourself...

AND....wisdom has prevailed...your 34 inch waist and the SS Mag's.....man, it doesn't get much better Jimmy ole boy!...geez, at that weight, you should be able to fit into your over starched khaki's!

If it were me, I'd sell the 78's as well....I think there will be to much overlap between the 2 skis. You should be able to take those SS mags into boot high powder and broken snow...piece of cake.

Then on a powder day above the boot....you can rent a pair of 88 plus waisted powder boards if you so desire....may we be that lucky this year!!!? ;D

It will be great to see the new you....heck the old you would have been great too....but knowing you're feeling better about how you're feeling...NICE!

Now....did ya buy the jacket to match the skis.....you know Ron if he sells the 78's, he'd have working money to buy that jacket which was the love of his life end of last season..

Jim,.....do you have a helmet.....I didn't think you wore one the last time we skied together.

Helmet, jacket...helmet, jacket....hmmmm, who's your secret Santa?? >:D

Best,
G

Gary, you are correct, I would be looking at a 87 plus ski for your soft snow, left over ski as well. That makes sense.
