Happy Thanksgivig to our RS family!
« on: November 26, 2008, 07:53:36 am »
To all you blond Vikings, fast skiers, slower skiers, bumpers, racers, ridge runners, national and international, helmet and helmet less, overwaxed, quick witted, fun loving, under and overdressed, under and overgeared, skiers...

This is such a great group of people and I wanted to personally thank you all for bringing belly laughs to so many days, to sharring your skiing experiences, your gear and clothing choices, sharing you photos, and eating and cooking habits....well and so many other brain ticklers.....

Here's wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! ? ;D

Best to all,
Gary

Why, Thank You Phil.? I appreciate the inclusion and the special recognition.   ;D

May we, as did the Pilgrims, find lots to give thanks for in the face of considerable uncertainty.   :)

For those of you with ten pounds of turkey meat left over, and no contingency plan, here's the recipe for Deer Valley Turkey Chili, from the ski resort of the same name, natch:  http://www.reluctantgourmet.com/dvchili.htm
I can verify that it is darned good, and probably worth buying a turkey just to make this.

Have a great long weekend, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Talk about not enough TURKEY!!
I bought the turkey ($125 dollars worth of heritage turkey, 17lbs), but just because I did not cook it, NO LEFTOVERS!!!
No friday morning turkey with gravy, stuffing and apple pie. Forget about Deer Valley Turkey Chili.
I may have to cook a small turkey this year just to have the full turkey experience.
OTOH, no clean up of myriad pots, pans etc.
Have never done a duck or goose. Any thoughts??? Have heard they leave a fine film of oil all over the house.

Lynn, I have never successfully roasted a duck.  You get about a gallon of fat rendered off, and are left with very little meat.  Must be doing something wrong, cause it always turns out tough and chewy.  I'll have to get some advice on this, because other people I know seem to be able to get a decent meal out of it.  I'm afraid to tackle a goose, for fear of the same results.  Let me know if you have better luck.

2011

Gary said it just fine back at the beginning of this thread (which I resurrected from the archives).
Wishing all of you, your families, and any "extended" families such as this a wonderful Thanksgiving.
