crash veterans return
« on: December 06, 2008, 10:03:20 am »
Well it's all good news!!!!!!

Ron came up to Rochester to ski Bristol for 2 days. After his brush with the surgeons knife for a muscle tear and my close up and personal with a tree, it's been a relief to be back on the snow in good health.

Day 1 cloudy 34 deg
We had loose granular snow the first day skiing 1200 vertical non stop, no lift lines...lots of crazy fun turns, hard pack spine bumps....a great workout. It was nice getting home and not seeing Ron have to put an ice bag on his groin. For me, skiing without a brace on the arm was sweet but certainly not as much of an impact as Ron's leg for sure but it did impact rhythm.

Day 2....started sunny 25 degrees man made snow on top of groomed hardpack
The snow was very fast today. We looked for broken snow which was piled up 2-6" man made and 2 footed our way through that easily. We found soft more round bumps 1-2 feet high to play in. No lift lines, no new snow but a blast and terrific workout.

Did Ron "like" his new Head SS Magnums???

I'll let him tell the story.

It was great getting out there healthy again and can't wait till RS3...looking forward to the week of the 13th.

Best,
Gary

Well, that is a little bit sad.? We all had so much fun expressing fake sympathy and adoration of Ron's groin, it is sort of sad to hear that part of the joint experience is passing.

On the other hand, it is REALLY great to hear that "the boys are back in town".

By the way Gary, did you ski Ron's SuperShape Magnums?  Are they an easier and more forgiving ski than your SuperShapes?  Am I going to like mine?

ahh, yes it was a fine 2 days a mentally rewarding time as well! The leg muscles and abdominal wall held up just fine and it was a real relief. I have some pain walking but none skiing so all is good.

The magnums you ask? They are a supurb ski. Simply a fantastic ski. Smooth, quick, very nimble. I told Gary that they are like skiing a really comfortable pair of slippers! They are just a great ski. You can rip on them, ski them slow take on hardpack and into 4-5" of pushed loose snow without changing a thing. I jumped into some moderate hard bumps and really liked their performance. It  was easy to control speed and make turns. I am interested to see how they do in deeper stuff but the flex in the tip is just great and torsionally, the ski is rock solid.

Ok Jim...
I was pretty impressed with them as well. We had 3-6? of broken man made snow on this one run and I switched skis with Ron. I noticed the sweet spot under the foot is HUGE!!!!!!!....the ski plowed, turned and carved over the crud as easy as eating Lynn?s apple pie. It could turn slow and easy, or go flat out as fast as your guts could take you. I mixed in some quick, medium and long turns and they responded with ?Yes sir?can do?! Very similar to the SS but the sweet spot you feel when turning underfoot edge to edge is bigger on the Magnums.

You're going to love them....for SURE!~
