The guy I'm getting the Supershape Speed in 170 from is a friend and a fellow local gear junkie.  He told me that the weight difference of the Speed in 170 versus 177 is significant.  I'm looking forward to the lighter version.  Unfortunately I have no choice in mount position because my boot size requires that the toe piece be in the farthest hole in the plate  :-[

Will ski them Saturday and report back...

Greg:

Your SuperShape Magnums are what length?  Valid to ask you to compare the Magnums and the Speeds at this point, or better to wait until you get the 170's??

My Magnums are 177 and I like that one in that length.  The Magnum in 177 I would describe as light and lively.

Supershape Speed in 170, much better? ;D.? Skiied them Sunday and they do not have the cumbersome weight issue that the ski in 177 suffers from.? This ski is a little burlier than the original Supershape but with much the same performance.? Radius of 14.x compared to 12.x on the original SS.? Takes a little more speed to bring it to life compared to the original SS but once "on" it really glues to the snow or ice.? Keeping this one.

Another observation with respect to the realskers.com ski reviews.? The last season or two I've learned that the spot for me in ski choice are the skis that have a speed rating of "10 20 Race."? The skis that are rated "20 Race" simply are too much work or take more speed than I can regularly generate on the modest terrain of the Midwest.? The Supershape Speed has a "20 Race" rating but has proven worthy.? Skis rated "20 Race" I wouldn't buy anymore without demoing.? The light bulb has gone on? :-\

Hey Greg, glad to hear that you're liking the 170s better.  My local shop tried (briefly) to convince me that the 177 would be right for me.  Darn glad I pushed back and didn't go for it.  Thanks for the feedback.  Post some more comments if you have any more to add.  Personally, I'm loving my Speeds, and find them a ton of fun.
