Got a present this weekend
« on: March 30, 2009, 09:58:51 am »
....wrapped in a long (get your minds out of the gutter guys :D) length of bubble wrap and soft cardboard.

SKIS!!!
Fischer Maungas, a prototype of the Vision Zeal.
A good friend of mine (any guesses?) found these babies for a steal.
Very pretty they are! Soft flex, twin tip with an 84 waist.
Wish I didn't have to wait until next season to try them out, but that's the way it goes.? :'( (Terryl, both of us must pony up ski reviews in the '09/10 season) ;D

If I win lotto, off to Portillo for some summer skiing.

For those of you who are still able to ski this season, ENJOY.
And write copious trip reports, so the rest of us can live vicariously! ;D

Lynn....you well geared powder pig....nice...

My daughter skied the Vision Zeals and thought the skis rocked. I'm so happy you got yourself a twin tip for your "other" days on the snow.

A huh....I'll bet your' jonesing to get those "bad girls" on the snow.

AND not sure how bubble wrap and cardboard would.....ok..no going there...but who was your mystery provider?

You mean to say you can't grab a day of spring snow SOMEWHERE between now and east coast closing day....shame shame.....if there's a will, there's a way.

Now Portillo....oh yeah...that's a 2 week get away...one of these days!

I ride switch sometimes now (just never by choice).? ?;D? ;D

By the way, $112.? Well worth the gamble.? Put some of Lynn's $5 bindings on them and she's set.? Could sell at local ski swap for more than that.? If she doesn't like them, they are disposable at such a price.

Gary: I'm very curious, what length of Vision Zeal did your daughter ski?? Zeal "line" is actually 3 different skis, different waists for different lengths (159/84, 168/88, 177/92).? Same skis as Maunga, Rangi, and Kehua.? Weren't well reviewed by Realskiers at that time and not classified as women's skis, but got rave reviews when bundled together under the Vision Zeal nameplate as women's skis.? Construction is same as Watea 84/94's and many on-line comments about them being the same ski as the Zeal.?

Awesome Lyn!!

Tough part is looking at them collecting dust.....

Dreaming about how they might perform......

Wondering where to 'test drive' them first?  ???

Portillo is a unique carrot (Svend has spent a great deal of time in Chile; hospitable people, great grub, and the wine and pisco sours slide down really easily)....worth considering in a skier's CV  ;) (www.skiportillo.com;D ;D

Pretty skis........now for your boots........

Congrats!!!

Ebay store.? Vision Zeal was on her list to demo and I had been doing some research, but we never found any.? She really liked the Vision Vapor last year but its waist width was too close to her Every Thangs.? Somewhere I found a post on Epic from somebody who knew a Fischer rep confirming that Zeal was the three Maori skis rebadged, but no other differences.? After Lynn liked the 84 mm waist on the demo skis in Utah did some more searches for Zeal (hoping for end of year luck) and then on Maunga and found an e-Bay store in State College, PA.? Ordered skis, received them 2 days later.?

? :D? Told Lynn they were $350 but that she was worth every penny, nothing but the best for her.? ?;D

Binding suggestions??

Flat mount or railflex??

I tried to get Lynn to agree to mounting rails compatible with her Every Thangs so that she could take two pair of skis but only one pair of bindings.
She demurred (or at least is unconvinced).

The more I think of the cost of bring two pairs of skis on trips, the better i like it.
Bring on the rail flex!

Everyone needs options....... both pairs of skis have to tag along (dbl ski bag??) ........

I'm with you on the rail flex, as long as it doesn't alter the softness or flex of the ski..... What does Fisher recommend?

As for the bubble wrap, could that not aid as protection to a certain skier while he ventures into the trees? >:D

You do know what every Canuck's answer to repair and protection is.....duct tape  (ex. Red Green??) With the appropriate amount of tape applied to the bubble wrap, fear is held back, double blacks await!! ;D ;D

Reviews required......acces sories must be purchased.......whe n will it snow???  ??? ???

So many sales!! So little money!!

as far as bindings go if you still have your RF's why not just use those. If not, for pow and soft snow skis, I prefer keeping the binding as flat as possible to the ski, better feel and control but it probably won't be that much different given you paid $5 for the binding. If you are buying new bindings get a very light one, I really like the Griffon's but they can be hard to get into and out of. Next year I am sure there are some others to choose from. Phil will know.

Lynn,

do you opt for green? Accent with pink?? Choose a complimentary hue to enhance these new boards???

Every skier has their "trademark" look.? You have all summer to get it "just right."? ;D ;D

Obviously, you are as personally focused as you are on the ski hill (3 yr. goal). ;)? ?Interesting how skiing transcends from so many variables.......... .

Shop on? ;D ;D ;D

Jim....Grace skied the Zeals in a 159 length cause that's all they had....She's 5'6, 130lbs, strong as an ox and she felt the ski performed superbly.

Mounting position will be important Lynn. I'm guessing it's a woman's specific ski where the mounting point is usually mounted 1-2 cm forward. The railflex system would certainly give you better CM balance point flexibility.

If this ski is anything at all like the Watea 84.....it's going to be a real gem on the snow in a variety of conditions.
