Real Skiers IV
« on: April 23, 2009, 07:33:19 am »
Ok skiers....no dust bunnies gathering under my plastic bottoms...

My ski clothes now washed and tucked into their ski bag for their long summer sleep, my creamsickle jacket hanging with my Spyder pants in my closet where they can be previewed throughtout the year....yes.....I struggling with letting go after a fantasitc ski season.

Having said all this....

I'm putting the following dates out there for all to consider to make those long range plans to join a great group for our annual outing at Steamboat.

RSIV Dec 12-19th...come one come all.

Steamboat has never disappointed us with great early sesason snow, very easy to access and just a fun mountain where the terrain makes you feel like a ski god.

So far here's who I'm pretty sure is going:

Ron
Greg
Mike
Ed
Me

others that have been or expressed interest:
Jim
Lynn
Svend
Terryl
Paul R

Now let's start adding names and share in a wonderful begining to the new ski season.

Best,
Gary

waht is most distrubing is Gary's reference to his "plastic bottom" I don't want to know, but it's really creepy....

In my defense....I'd like to say that I skied such exceptionally fast lines that day that the "g" force imprinted that wicked grin on my face for almost 2 hours after the last run.

Yes....it was a good day.

Now Greg....can you post a picture of the aftermath from the sacrifical skin removal from your nose so the snow gods would grant us more powder?

If I had one I would comply.  Anything to bring down the "gold" from above...

Sadly, no more skiing in this neck of the woods, and no trips west planned either....(sniff, sniff? :'().?

But....we're pretty cranked about getting back into mountain biking after a 13 year absence (ie. when our first daughter was born -- did it off-and-on since then, but nothing serious).? Anyway, at least we'll have some downhill thrills to supplant the ones from skiing, whilst we await the first snowflakes of next winter.? Did our first single track ride yesterday...what a hoot! Lot's of fun, but man, are we ever rusty.? Maneuvering skills definitely need sharpening.? It's gonna be a fun summer relearning that sport!?

Anyone else here into mountain biking?

As for RS4 (that moniker sounds like a German sports sedan model), not sure if we can make it.? Way too early to commit.? We're thinking about visiting my sister in Switzerland again around Christmas time, and you know we're not going there just for the fondue and yodeling? ;D !!! Also, that's usually a crazy time at work for me, as clients just have to clear up all sorts of "urgent" matters before year end....groan....hap pens every year.....? Bottom line is....we'll see.... Would love to go, but hard to see beyond next month at this point.

Cheers!

Reminds me.? One of the things taking place at SnowBasin when we were there in March was the Xterra Winter World Championships, sanctioned by and membership required in "USA Triathlon".? Description from the Snowbasin web site.

The main event, the XTERRA Winter World Championship, is a uniquely XTERRA multisport race combining the four disciplines of snow running, snow mountain biking, snow shoeing, and ski mountaineering. The race is open to both professional and amateur competitors. For more information, please view our flyer in PDF Format.

Distances*:? run 5K, cycle 10K, snowshoe 5K, ski 8K? ? ? *distances are approximate

Anyway, Svend, once you get your mountain biking skills sharpened up, you can then ride the year around.? ?;D

Jim, you're the Man! Year 'round mountain biking -- what a blast.  Spiked tires for the bikes, or snow chains.  Imagine doing the Strawberry Bowl at Snowbasin on a mountain bike.  Yeehaw!

Actually, Utah has got to be a great place for mtn. biking.  The area in the southern part that you and Lynn visited this winter, especially.  Must be some amazing trails down there.
