Summer stoke???
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:07:57 pm »
So what are you doing this summer that is ski-oriented?  Any new gear on the horizon? New boards, new clothees, bindings, toys....

me nothing new really, I already have ordered my skis for next season and bought a jacket at a rediculous price, I couldn't refuse. I still think it was in the system at christy's incorrectly.

Training for the season, running and biking. Starting a program with a trainer next week to work on some areas still affected by by by injuries.

PLANNING and DREAMING.?

1. Committed to spending limited shekels on actually skiing rather than? letting Y'ALL talk me into buying yet more equipment to go skiing.? ?;D ;D
2. Selling iM78's and iM77's at ski swaps next fall.? (only used the SS Mag's and Watea 84's anyway)
3. Attending the Harb camp at A-Basin second week in December (socially, camp last year was a lot of fun).
4. Skiing at Aspen in January, hope to get a bit of instruction from one of Clendenin's people (or John himself).
5. Always wanting to ski at new places.
? ? 5.1.? Big Sky with side trip to Yellowstone, which I hear is lovely in the winter.? :-\
? ? 5.2? ?Heavenly -- skiing and looking out over Lake Tahoe would be awesome, I think.? :-\
? ? 5.3? ?Lake Louise -- Another beautiful area, I have heard.? Somewhat dependent on Canadian exchange rate.? :-\
6. Always enjoy Utah.? Surprisingly, The Canyons was probably our best skiing this past year (but Alta, Snowbasin, and Solitude were good as well).
7. A Whiteface long weekend with our Canadian Viking friends would be nice. Another weekend in Vermont (maybe Stowe) is also a target.

Satisfied with my skis and with my ski clothes (and even the skier may have gotten better? :o ). I did buy a pair of Hefstra gloves at closeout prices in Utah back in March and also have some new base layer pieces courtesy of SmartWool/Tramdock and my super shopper friend.

Ohhh.? Also hoping to get in shape to "ride a small Century" in August (I think that's what the real bikers call a 100km ride).? Hope the terrain is flat enough to cooperate.? I did 19 miles yesterday with reasonable ease, and while that is the longest ride since I started last summer (remember, I'm 60 years old), it is still only 30 km and a long ways from where I want to get, and it has been a VERY rainy spring and early summer here in the mid-Atlantic.

Shekels spent:
  • Season passes (Killington, Loveland, A-basin)
  • December PMTS camp at A-basin
  • 3 days of private lessons with Diana in February

Preparations:
  • Daily balance practice (teeter board, bosu ball)
  • Side crunches, one legged squats, lunges, hamstring curls, miscellaneous core exercises, and stretching so this middle aged body can ski
  • Occasional Harb carver and carpeted ramp exercises (The spring rains have made it very hard to get out on my carvers? :( )

Jim,

It's great to see that you're going to the December A-basin camp too!? I've been thinking about getting into biking ... and thinking and thinking.? You may have just made my mind up for me.? Good luck with the 100km goal.

It'll be interesting to hear your views after you get Harb and Clendenin training virtually back to back.

Jim,

I bought IM78's at the end of last year for this years wider ski.

Those small century rides are "Metric Century's and are around 62 miles which is the actual english conversion of the 100km.
Where do you live? Perhaps we can link up for an upcoming Metric.

I, too, have returned to road biking as my summer ski prep. My summer equipment stoke will be the replacement of my Trek road bike which I found to have a crack in the chainstay tube this past Sunday. My local bike shop is advocating for me to Trek as the frame is warranted for life.

If I can talk Ron into bringing the Hellbents to Avalon for some surfing, I'll add that to my list of ski related activities.

I bought my iM78's in spring of '07, then Gary/Ron highly recommended the Watea 84's last spring.? Actually got a great deal, ordered '08 skis at $399, they were sold out and gave me '09s at that price.

I live in Northern Virginia, but have signed up for a bike ride run by a friend of a friend in Amherst, MA. (with shorter distances as well as the 62 and 100 mile options). Other than getting ready for that, I reckon I'll keep the rides more reasonable.? Riding 60+ miles sounds like an awful lot at this point in my 'biking life'.

Wouldn't the weight of the ski boots on the Hellbents be a disadvantage in the water??/   ;D

Just a note to all, Jim just fixed my post with the underline and bolding, he did not alter anything I posted. This isn't the other site :)

Thanks Ron.? Habit! Lynn has a problem remembering that this softwared requires that you mark the text again when using bold and underline, so frequently leaves html tags exposed.? Takes about 3 seconds to fix, some days I am more anal than others.? The thought that others might think I edited your post didn't enter my mind.

Now Lynn, we haven't discussed my new boards yet but we can.  >:D  Nomad SFT's and Pilgrims are on order.

I just started a program with a trainer that I am really psyched about. BUT, tell me more about your skis? I am sure gary wants to know how many coats of wax you have on your "TOP SHEETS"  :) :)

Summer fitness has been on the back burner for the most part because the weather has been Crap!
Goal, ride mt bike at least three times a week, and golf(walk) at least twice a week.  I've added jump rope and agility ladder exercises to my routine, but I need out door activity to keep my interest.

To keep the stoke, I've watched some movies like Hot Dog and Ski School(thanks for that Ron) and I've been watching some video of SkiClinics in Portillo.

I think I should get some of the video taken of me last year and analyze my form (or lack thereof) to see what I can work on for 09-10 season.

I have been promised that jump rope and agility ladder exercises will improve quick feet in the bumps

what you can't excercise inside????  can't do lunges, can do stair climbs inside, can't do isometric squats, can't do regular squats.... (yes, you hate me now...)

Sk **** rules for summer stoke, nothing better.

BTW- I am taking my skis to the gym and leaning them against the wall.

Ummmm, well, yeah I CAN work out in side, squats, lunges, and other icky stuff......I even do pilates from time to time, but its much easier for me to keep in shape if I can get outside and Do Something!

Skis at the Gym, eh?

Perhaps I'll excavate my spin bike from the avalanche of clothing and ride it while watching ski ****.
