Design RS Perfect Ski
« on: October 23, 2009, 08:19:18 am »
If the funds were there and we collectively could design our own skis, what features would be essential.

Please make each suggestion short and consice.

Let me get started:

Happy colors
Wood core

now you......

A live ski valet to carry them!

Gee, that's not silly enough. I have to work on that.

G et al,

Down in DC, the idots that we elect are designing a new health care system on a somewhat collaborative basis. I will absolutely guarantee that the final product will not be in the best interest of the people who use and pay for the system. Take nothing from the previous 2 sentences to place me in any political camp. I ain't no Democrat, I ain't no Republican, I am an Patriot.

So, I'll continue to ski on skis that are designed by experts w/o meaningful input from me.

An old saying: A camel is a horse designed by committee.

I like the shiny top skins Greg  ::)

Can we add...self waxing or continuous wax skis.

Mike...you did what with a camel?...politics so confuse me.  :'(

Ron.....you might be off just a wee bit in your micromilimeters but whose counting  :o

Lynn...just the right amount of stiffness.....not even touching that one. AND someone to carry them....gesh....fro m what I remember....you never carry your skis!  >:D

so let me add:

Carvey quick turner? 13 m radius
Floats in knee high
Easy to arc
hold the tail or release the tail, pilots choice
Integrated binidngs and/or flat mounted
Pretty colors
Smart skis that provide torsional stablity at high and low speeds

I think I've got it: TRANSFORMERS!!!! YEAH....Transformer Skis!   ;D

An old saying: A camel is a horse designed by committee.

Equally old sayings.  COBOL and PL/1 and ADA are kitchen sink languages designed by committee (unlike C, Java, Pascal, etc).

Replaceable graphics, so we could have the illusion of new skis every year without really doing anything other than glueing on the new skin (sort of like cell phone and laptop skins).

This could also be used to address Greg's "yellow stain" concerns.? In the event the Gary was able to christen someone's skis, they could be made "like new" merely by replacing the topskin skin.

Manufacturers like Pilgrim with awesome graphics would be able to offer combinations of multiple years of graphics with whatever ski you like.

GARY:  That trailing 'E' in design was really irritating me, so I edited your original post.

How many posts did the committee rules require before one is no longer a Junior Member. Hey, I'm 63.

I have on strict rule about the skis that I buy. The first, which I have not broken since I first instituted this rule 3-4 years ago is that I will only buy skis that are race laminate/sandwhich construction. IMO, the feel of sandwich ski cannot be duplicated with cap or beta cap (for any Atomic fans) construction or even the cap/sandwhich that Fischer has done in the past. Luckily, most of the uperer end skis coming out of most of the ski companies do feature sandwich construction.

Beyond that. I am hoping that Phil sold me the perfect ski. For someone that hated midfats, I can say that a good midfat somewhere between 78and 88 underfoot may just about be that perfect do everything ski (and this is from someone that has well over 10 pairs of skis and has been looking ofr a full time ski caddy :D). As my skiing has improved, I havw really enjoyed midfats more and more. Better technique allows me to be able to really carve and bedb these skis and also ski them off piste and even in deep untracked. I actually like the fact that skiing bot those very different conditions are a little harder than on a ski made for the conditions, and skiing them in these conditions makes one a better skier. The IM 78 comes pretty close but is just a little too thin underfoot for a pure big dump day. The Watea 84 for me skied great in fresh snow but really lacked on harder snow. It may be that the Sultan 85 and the FX 84 may be those perfect do everything skis, that youy can really enjoy whatever the mountain throws at you on any given day.

Not that I would every want to give up my quiver!!
